For buying and selling property in Caulnes
The small town of Caulnes is found right in the peaceful heart of the Côtes d'Armor department of Brittany, in France's pretty north-west. Caulnes is perfectly located for enjoying many of Brittany's best attractions, as it has easy access to a major road, is within a short drive of mediaeval Dinan and the capital city of Rennes, and is close to all the resorts and beaches of the northern coast of the region. Caulnes, whilst being full of charm, is not over touristy, offering a delightful slice of authentic Breton life.
Caulnes is just a little town, tranquil and perfect for unwinding from the cares and hectic pace of life in the UK. Time moves slowly here, and there is a sense of being a part of a real community rather than being just another tourist. All the basic everyday needs can be met within Caulnes, with bars, tabacs, a supermarket and local shops and services on hand, while the nearby towns of Broons and the larger centres found in St Malo, Dinan and others offer everything you could hope to find, with excellent restaurants, shopping and historic sights.
The Côtes d'Armor is Brittany's best loved department, and there is good reason for this as you will discover as soon as you begin to explore. First and foremost, you will find the gloriously peaceful green Breton countryside encircling the town, and there are many ways to enjoy this available to you. Try horse-riding, cycling or simply walking, or if you are feeling a little less active, take a leisurely drive and stop for a French-style picnic in any of the idyllic spots you will find along the way. Leisure lakes such as Jugon les Lacs are perfect for picnicking, as well as having facilities for swimming, boating and fishing.
Places to visit locally include the capital city of Rennes, some 40 minutes from Caulnes, or the beautiful mediaeval town of Dinan on the River Rance from where you can take boat trips to enjoy a unique view of the town and its environs. The seaside offers endless possibilities, with everything from secluded coves to lively beaches and resort towns.
The nearest airport that has direct flights from the UK is Dinard, and the good news is that budget airline Ryanair fly there as well as Aurigny, keeping costs down so you can make regular trips. Rennes, just a few minutes further away provides another option, with flights offered by Flybe. The port of St Malo is the nearest, but all of the northern ferry ports are close enough, so take your pick. If driving, you will find the town on the D766 which can be accessed from the N12 or N176.
Property in the Côtes d'Armor is rarely cheap, as the department is high on everybody's list of desirable places. However, if you keep away from the coast and the well known towns, places like Caulnes can offer some real bargains.
