The small town of Hénon, which is found in the north-west of France in the Côtes d'Armor department of Brittany, is not just a town on its own but one which has become part of the seven communes of the Pays de Moncontour. This extended community was set up in 1993 in order to maximise the economic potential, to preserve the individual heritages of each village and to improve the quality of life for both inhabitants and visitors.
The countryside of the surrounding area is lush and green, with woods and meadows punctuated by lakes and rivers. It is a perfect agricultural region, ideal for raising animals and growing crops, with its gentle climate and clean air. Fishermen are in heaven here, as the rivers are bursting with fish. Those whose love of fish tends more towards eating them than trying to catch them will be happy here too, as unsurprisingly both sea and freshwater fish are something of a speciality in the Côtes d'Armor.
Hénon and the other towns that form the communes of Moncontour offer between them, access to all the shops, restaurants, amenities and service industries that you will need, as well as being situated close enough to the fabulous Breton coast and the main town of St Brieuc. The seven communes were formed to maximise the economic potential of the towns and villages that form it, and Hénon, as a result, is developing into a thriving community, ideal for property seekers who are seeking to establish a business in Brittany.
The situation of Hénon is perfect as a base for holidays in Brittany, as all the major attractions are close to hand, yet Hénon itself is set in a delightfully peaceful natural environment. There are numerous sporting activities to be found locally, with good golf courses, horse-riding stables, leisure lakes and fantastic walking trails all around the town. The area is brimming with history and Breton culture, and in the summer months you will find an abundance of markets, night markets, festivals and other cultural events to enjoy.
Air travellers can take a flight to Dinard, Rennes, Brest or Lorient. Dinard is served by Aurigny and Ryanair; Rennes by flybe and Aer Lingus; Brest by flybe and Ryanair; and Lorient by Aer Arann. The train will take you to St Brieuc from where you can get another train to nearby Saint Carreuc. Brittany Ferries will get you to the port of St Malo, from where it is just a short drive to reach your destination. Roscoff is also within reach. Drivers will be able to find the town not far from the N12.
Prices of property in and around Hénon represent great value, especially as the town is situated within easy reach of the coast and the mediaeval towns that attract so much tourist trade. It is still possible to find properties for renovation in the area, with traditional Breton farms and other agricultural buildings being especially well represented.
