For buying and selling property in Languenan
The village of Languenan has a wonderful location in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany. It lies in peaceful countryside, yet only minutes from the mediaeval town of Dinan and the safe, sandy beaches for which the area is famed. Languenan also features in the legends of King Arthur, and offers a chance for children to learn more about the wonderful stories and their connection to the region.
Languenan is only a small village, but it provides basic shops (a bakery and a general store) and services. Everything you need, however, is easily found in nearby Dinan, just ten minutes away, or for much greater facilities again you can head for St Malo. In the port town you have a great choice of shops, bars, restaurants, sights, beaches and many other forms of entertainment to enjoy.
Languenan is a typically Breton village, with local architecture evident. The village's heritage includes its church, built in the mid 19th century on the site of a much earlier edifice (15th century). Other sights of mention include an Iron Age burial site where bronze axes have been found, and the intriguingly named Field of the Castle Mound, which dates to the mediaeval period. Near to the village are all the sights of mediaeval Dinan, where you can enjoy quaint, twisting streets, half-timbered houses, a bustling river port and the ancient fortifications of the town.
Languenan has such a great situation that there are endless possibilities for days out. Visit the local markets… Dinan's is held on Tuesday mornings and is a great way to begin a day of exploring the town. Dinard is another town worth a visit. It's perhaps not as magically quaint as Dinan, but it has great charm and super, sandy beaches.
Just a little further afield is Cançale, said to have the best oysters in Brittany, or Mont St Michel, actually in Normandy but within easy reach at 48 kilometres from Languenan. Mont St Michel is one of France's best loved attractions, and even the first sight of this island abbey town is unforgettable.
At the seaside you can try your hand at sailing and sand yachting, as well as walking, swimming and of course sunbathing. If you enjoy horse-riding you can find stables nearby at Plélan le Petit, and golfers have a choice of courses in the area. Close to Rennes, there are lovely woodland walks to enjoy in the legendary Forest of Brocéliande, and the tales of King Arthur to follow along with the trails! Leisure lakes like Jugon les Lacs provide opportunities for swimming and sailing, while rivers and smaller lakes are idyllic spots for angling.
You can fly to Dinard or Rennes. Dinard is served by Ryanair and Aurigny, and Rennes by Flybe. Or you can travel by sea to St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg, St Malo being the closest. There's also a railway station for linking to main lines. Drivers will find Languenan on the D28/D26, with the nearest major road being the N176.
Property in Languenan is quite reasonably priced, considering the prime location of the village. Properties currently (March 2012) on the market begin at only 144,450 Euros for a lovely, three bedroom stone house, and run to 420,000 Euros for a fabulous equestrian property.
