Lanrelas - typically Breton in every way

Lanrelas is a typically Breton village set in typically Breton countryside in the Rance River Valley. With a population of just over 800, it is a small, tranquil village, but it's close to the larger and lively town of Broons. Lanrelas is mainly constructed from local stone and slate, giving a very attractive and authentic appearance. The River Rance runs by, making a lovely setting even better!

Lanrelas's heritage

You might not expect to find much of interest in a village with just 854 inhabitants, but then again, you might be wrong! Lanrelas has several interesting sights connected to its history, and to the history of the area. The church is important. Built in the 16th century by the Dukes of Montmorency, it was faithfully restored after being twice damaged by fires. Then there's the 17th century Chapel of Saint Peter and several stone crosses and manor houses nearby. Finally, fans of mystical menhirs can see two, dating to the Neolithic period.

Village life

Lanrelas is small and sleepy, but it is not devoid of life. Far from it! The little village has a primary school for the young ones. Older kids won't be too bored either, as there are badminton and volley ball courts and an open air swimming pool there to keep them happy. For most of your shopping and for dining out, however, you will need to pop into the nearby town of Broons. Broons has a weekly market in addition to shops and supermarkets, and its got bars and restaurants too.

Activities available in the area around Lanrelas

The outdoor life is definitely the way to go in the Côtes-d'Armor, and there's no shortage of activities you can access from Lanrelas. The department has several golf courses, many swimming pools, and rivers and leisure lakes for fishing, swimming and boating. Horse-riding and cycling are popular too.

Explore nearby Dinan

Follow the River Rance to the gorgeous mediaeval town of Dinan. Here you can wander the tiny, twisting streets and gaze at the picturesque half-timbered houses. Or you can amble down to the colourful river port where there is always something going on. Dinan has lots of shops and restaurants too, so indulge to your heart's content.

Discover the coast and the surrounding countryside

Only a short drive further on is the fabulous Breton coast. Beautiful beaches, fun seaside resorts and glorious cliff top walks are all found here. Out into the countryside there are many places to go too. Browse the stalls of country markets, join in the fun at Breton fêtes and festivals or just settle down to try the local cider and a plate of delicious crepes. Visit a National Stud Farm to see some magnificent horses, discover standing stones and menhirs, or just walk in endlessly stunning countryside.
