For buying and selling property in Le Quiou
The tiny village of Le Quiou has only a little over 300 full-time residents, but it has a proud and interesting heritage making it worthy of note. Sitting on a tributary of the River Rance, the village is also very picturesque and located conveniently close to the main attractions of this popular department.
When you find a village as small as Le Quiou, set in the rural surroundings of inland Brittany, it isn't often that you also find a thriving community and a fascinating heritage. Le Quiou is really better classified as a hamlet perhaps, rather than a village, but although it is tranquil and unspoilt, this village has a real sense of purpose and identity.
The history of Le Quiou is evidenced in its built heritage which includes a beautiful chateau, le Château de Hac, the lovely church and the remains (under excavation) of a Gallo Roman villa. The village is also notable for being built of a local and very distinctive stone. The village has a lively community life, some of which is centred around the lively little bar, and for lovers of traditional Breton food there is also a great little creperie. On the edge of the village lies a super leisure lake, offering various land and water based activities, as well as the old railway line, now a superb walking/cycling trail.
Charming as the village and village life may be, you will want (and need) to get out and about. Shops, supermarkets, restaurants and other facilities and services can be found in the nearby market town of Evran, just a very short distance away and handy for all your everyday needs. The mediaeval town and tourist attraction of Dinan is also close at hand, perfect for atmospheric days out, heritage and culture.
Although the village of Le Quiou is inland in Brittany, the fabulous Breton coast is but a short drive away, with beautiful beaches, sparkling seas, lively family resorts and quaint fishing villages. There are many sporting and leisure activities to find and enjoy, and you don't have to go far to find access to fishing, swimming, sailing, walking, horse-riding and golf.
If you want to travel by air, Dinard is the place to head for and has direct flights to and from the UK with budget airline Ryanair and Aurigny. Those who prefer the ferry will find St Malo the best port to head for, and this is served by the excellent Brittany Ferries, who make the ferry crossing almost as enjoyable as a holiday! Finally, drivers (and you will need a car to make the most of the region) can access the village from the D26, between the N176 and N12 non toll motorways and the D137.
Although the price of property in the Côtes-d'Armor is widely believed to have become rather expensive, it is still possible to find some real bargains if you stay away from the well known tourist towns. Property in and near to Le Quiou is currently very reasonably priced.
