Plessala is a typically Breton small market town, set in the very picturesque countryside of the Côtes-d'Armor. The town offers good basic amenities and has a lively community life. Many events take place in Plessala throughout the year, and there is a really vibrant atmosphere. Plessala also makes a good base from which to enjoy all the main attractions of the region. The mediaeval town of Dinan is just a short drive away, and it's easy to get to the coast for summer days at the seaside.

Plessala's market takes place on Thursday mornings, and it's always a colourful affair. Local cider, cheeses, crepes and fresh produce are on offer. The little town also has shops for everyday needs, as well as services such as hairdressers, a bank, doctors, dentists and two primary schools. Relaxation is catered for by a couple of friendly bars and also a creperie, perfect for trying out traditional Breton fare. The trout lake is great for fishing, so if this appeals pick up a permit from the Mairie and enjoy.

Discover Plessala's historic sights

Plessala has a few historic sights to discover. These include the Church of Saint Peter, a chapel and some lovely original mansions constructed in Breton traditional style. There's also a stone cross, an old lavoir (public wash house) and a fountain. The natural heritage is just as important as the built patrimony. There is a tranquil lake which is surrounded by a beautiful natural environment with old oak trees.

Outdoor activities available in the area

The lake provides excellent fishing, while the walking trails around it are perfect for walkers and joggers. The area beside the lake also offers a children's play area and picnic spots. Mini golf is found there too, as are tennis courts. And just a short way from the town there are many other activities. The gentle countryside is ideal for horse-riding and cycling, while golfers can take advantage of a number of good courses in the department.

Get out and about

Days out from Plessala can take you to lots of Brittany's favourite places. One of these is Dinan, a stunning mediaeval town that has old ramparts and a river port. It also has a lovely built heritage of half-timbered houses and a charming collection of shops, restaurants and other attractions.

Visit historic Moncontour and have fun at the coast

Still close to home and worth discovering is the historic town of Moncontour. The coast is within an hour's drive, and has some lively seaside resorts and beautiful beaches to offer old fashioned family seaside fun, as well as stunning views.

How to get there

Fly to Dinard or Rennes for an easy direct trip from the UK. Dinard is served by Ryanair and Aurigny, while Rennes is served by Flybe. Brittany Ferries can take you to the nearest ferry port of St Malo. Finally, drivers can find Plessala on the D1/D22. The nearest major roads are the N164 and N12.

Property prices and availability in and around Plessala

Property in the region is reasonably priced in general. Inland property, such as that around Plessala, is cheaper than that at the coast. Look for Breton houses built in local materials, as these are always sought after and make good investments.
