For buying and selling property in Plussulien
Plussulien is a small Breton town in the Côtes d'Armor department in northern Brittany. Located as it is, with easy access from the UK and proximity to all the major attractions of this lovely area, Plussulien attracts considerable interest from British property seekers. Several families have not only bought holiday property here, but have settled down to full-time life as Plussuliannais.
Plussulien is a small town, not really much more than a large village, but it does offer a few basic amenities which are handy for those days when you don't want to take the car out. In the town you will find a shop selling fresh baked bread (delicious!), a couple of friendly bars (one, English owned, serving food too) where you can chill out over a cool beer or glass of wine, and a village school. If you need to go to a supermarket or want other larger town facilities don't worry, you won't have to travel far. The nearby town of Corlay offers all these things as well as plethora of excellent restaurants and various leisure attractions. St Brieuc is also close enough to visit, at around a half hour's drive away.
It is interesting to note that the main language of the town was Breton rather than French until around 1930. Some of the older inhabitants will still choose to speak in the local dialect even today... so you may have two languages to learn rather than just one if you decide to move to Plussulien! As well as this rich linguistic history, Plussulien has a past that dates back to Neolithic times when stone axe heads were fashioned here as archaeology has proved. Other historical features of the town include the old church with its "pietà", a depiction of the Virgin Mary holding the body of the crucified Christ, and a Sèlèdin vault and cross.
There are lots of sports and other activities you can enjoy in the area. The nearby Lake Guerlédan is close to Plussulien, and this beautiful lake, one of the biggest in Brittany, offers the opportunity to sail, swim, fish, water ski, wind surf, canoe, or simply sunbathe and picnic on its safe sandy beaches. Nearby there is also tennis, horse-riding, cycling and golf. The coast is within striking distance for days at the seaside, and the ferry port towns are great for shopping, as well as being historically and culturally interesting. Many who love this area, though, say that the simple pleasures are the best, and just walking in the forests and fields that surround the town is one of the greatest joys of all.
If you wish to fly, it is simple to take a flight to Dinard, Brest, Lorient or Rennes. Dinard is served by Aurigny and Ryanair, Brest by flybe and Ryanair, Lorient by Aer Arann, and Rennes by flybe and Aer Lingus. Train travel will take you to St Brieuc, and of course, ferries will get you to the ports of St Malo or Roscoff. If you are driving, you will find Plussulien from the N164, on the D44.
Plussulien lies in a popular department, but it is still possible to find some very reasonably priced property around this part of the department. In fact, at the time of writing there are some lovely properties on the market for less than a hundred thousand Euros... and others for not much more than this sum.
