For buying and selling property in Pont Croix
The village of Pont Croix is one of Finistère's little treasures. With its enviable location on the promontory that juts into the ocean, its cobbled streets and mediaeval houses, it really is charming. Pont Croix makes a great base for holidays in this part of Brittany, with the coast just minutes away. And its traditional market and array of shops and amenities belie its size.
Pont Croix has a wealth of natural heritage. The village lies on the tidal River Goyen, and is just four kilometres from the sea. The countryside that surrounds the village is reminiscent of Cornwall. (Pont Croix is in fact twinned with the Cornish village of Constantine.) The built heritage meanwhile offers up twisting cobbled streets that climb lazily up the hill towards the church/cathedral (it's officially accorded a status that's somewhere between the two) at the top. The village is beautiful, with mediaeval houses that provide inspiration for artists.
The village has everything you need from boulangeries to banks to veterinary clinics! Craft shops predominate, and browsing the workshops of the local artisans is always fascinating. Pont Croix has a handful of good restaurants too, with local specialities. So, if you've ever fancied tasting an authentic Breton buckwheat pancake, this is the place to do it.
With the sea just minutes away, there's no shortage of opportunities to get active around Pont Croix. You can travel north, west or south from Pont Croix and you'll be at the seaside with all the usual beach and sea sports to enjoy. All around the village you can follow the beautiful walking and nature trails. Stick to the riverside to find flora and fauna or head out to discover more heritage. There's an old wash house, a windmill and fantastic views out over the estuary along the way.
Finistère is first and foremost a land of the sea. Its culture is dominated by the relationship between the land, its people and the ocean. So no visit to Finistère is complete without spending some time at the coast. Just a few kilometres south is Audierne, a lively fishing port packed with character. It has fabulous beaches and lovely clean seas with lots of activities on offer. And it has a great selection of shops and restaurants. Oysters are big in Audierne, and you'll find plenty of chances to try them in the town. Travelling a little further afield will bring you to Quimper, where you'll find mediaeval buildings and potteries. Or, take time to visit the dynamic port of Brest.
If you like to travel by air, there are several airports that you can opt for. Brest, Dinard, Rennes and Nantes are all possibilities. Brest is the nearest, and has flights from the UK with Flybe and Air France. Ferry travel is also a great way to go, with accessible ports at Roscoff, St Malo, Caen and Cherbourg. Roscoff is the closest. Finally, if you're travelling by car, you'll find the town on the D765. The N165 is the nearest major road.
If you want a property near to the sea in Brittany, but don't want to pay sky high prices, take a look at Pont Croix. There's a good range of property types and styles at very reasonable prices.
