For buying and selling property in Sainte Tréphine
If your idea of hell is to holiday in a place like Benidorm, where noisy nightclubs and packed beaches are the order of the day, a complete antidote can be found in a peaceful little Breton village named Sainte Tréphine. With just over 200 residents, Sainte Tréphine really does offer an escape from the hectic nature of modern life, and its setting, in glorious central Brittany, puts the icing on the cake. Culturally rich, deeply historic, with unspoilt countryside and beautiful beaches, Brittany is one of the best loved regions of France.
Village life in such a tiny, rural community is always pretty peaceful, but the advantage of living in such a community is that you soon get to know your neighbours, who quickly become your friends. Sainte Tréphine has no discos, nightclubs or trendy bars, in fact, all it really offers is a couple of mobile shops which serve the village to supply necessities such as fresh bread , general groceries and meat.
If this sounds a bit sparse as shops go, don't worry though, the village of Saint Nicolas de Pelim is just down the road, and here you will find amenities a plenty. There's a supermarket, a great collection of small shops, services such as banks, garages, doctors and schools, restaurants and bars too.
If the tranquillity of village life gets a bit too much for you and you want to get out and about, there is plenty to enjoy in the region. Because of the central location of the village, almost everywhere is accessible to you, so you can stick a pin in the map and head off! There are the wild cliffs and hidden bays of Finistère to your west, the calmer beauty of Morbihan to the south, the incredible historic towns and lively resorts of the Côtes d'Armor to the north, and the exciting port town of St Malo to the north-east.
It isn't just the beaches and the sea that make up Brittany's appeal though, as just about anywhere you go has its own fascination and pleasures to bring. The mediaeval harbour town of Dinan is an absolute must see, as is the Breton capital city of Rennes.
Staying much closer to home, though, you will love the massive Lake Guerledan, a huge expanse of leisure lake that offers possibilities for many water sports, as well as being a perfect setting for land-based activities such as walking, cycling, horse-riding, tennis and picnicking!
New flights to the region are being introduced quite frequently, so it is important to keep an eye on possibilities for flights. Airports to check, all of which currently have direct links to the UK are Dinard, Brest, Nantes and Rennes. Airlines servicing these airports include Ryanair, Aurigny, Flybe and easyJet. The nearest ferry ports are that of St Malo and Roscoff, served by Brittany Ferries, although any of the northern ferry ports could be used. Drivers should follow the N164 or N12, the N164 being the nearest major road to Sainte Tréphine.
Prices in the Côtes d'Armor coast tend to be expensive, but much less so inland, so if the budget is a bit tight, a little village like Sainte Tréphine could be a great place to look for that dream home in Brittany.
