Dramatic Brittany

Crozon, which is a town lying on the central peninsula of western Brittany, is an attractive town with a dramatic setting. The cliffs close to the town are the highest in the region, and offer spectacular views from all angles. Looking to the north from Crozon, you can see as far as the Brest Harbour. The Atlantic coast at Crozon is at its most beautiful, and the town is a perfect base for anyone who loves this part of France, and for whom paradise consists of lovely beaches and hidden coves, watersports, cliff top walks, fresh seafood and pretty, white-washed houses with sleek, grey slate roofs.

Interesting church

Crozon has a very interesting church, with a beautiful altarpiece made from 24 painted and superbly sculpted wooden panels. This depicts the mass crucifixion of Christian soldiers and although the subject is disturbing, the piece is well worth seeing from an artistic and historical point of view.

Plenty of shops

Crozon has plenty of facilities, and there is no shortage of shops and supermarkets for your everyday needs. Best buys in town include the local delicacies such as the Coquilles de St Jacques (scallops), and creamy Camembert cheeses. Crozon also boasts some excellent restaurants, and the delicious seafood is truly fresh, coming as it does from a very short distance away from the town!

Exploring the region

Crozon makes a great base for further exploration of the region. The peninsula on which the town lies is a fascinating and unique environment, and the wildlife and vegetation provide plenty of interest for those who enjoy discovering the natural wonders of Brittany. The Parc Naturel Regionel d'Amorique lies to the east of Crozon, and here again you can find a truly unspoiled part of the countryside.

Watersports paradise

Crozon is truly a fantastic venue for anyone who enjoys watersports. There is a good variety available with windsurfing, sailing, water-skiing, swimming and others all ideally suited to this part of Brittany. Other sports are horse-riding, cycling and walking, with the country and seaside trails making all of these a pleasure.

Fêtes and festivals

Crozon, in common with many other French towns, has a number of fêtes and festivals at various times of year. Probably the best known festival held in Crozon is the quaintly named "Festival du Bout du Monde"... the World's End Festival! This is a great music festival held every summer, which draws people from all over Europe to enjoy the live bands who flock to play at this prestigious event.

How to get there

To get to Crozon you can fly to Dinard (Ryanair, Aurigny) or to Brest (with Ryanair or flybe), or choose to travel by sea and catch a ferry to St Malo or Roscoff.

Property prices and availability in and around Crozon

Crozon, being near the coast, can tend to be more expensive than other parts of the Finistère department. But, in general, Finistère has some of the cheapest properties in Brittany, so there should be something to suit most budgets here. Houses with sea views are the most sought after, and being close to all the amenities of Crozon is a useful bonus. There may be a rental potential too, if you buy a house which you don't plan to live in all year round.
