For buying and selling property in Landivisiau
The large town of Landivisiau is located in the Finistère department of western Brittany, lying just to the north of the western tip of the peninsula. Finistère is known for its wild beauty, but if you prefer to base yourself in a well equipped town and appreciate the beaches and landscapes from a slight distance, then Landivisiau could be an ideal spot for you. The town has all mod cons, great shopping, and provides all the necessities for a comfortable modern lifestyle, whilst still being close to the glorious beaches and dramatic cliffs of Finistère, the land they call "Land's End".
One of the best things about being in France for many people, is the pleasure afforded by the markets, the supermarkets and the hypermarkets, where you can purchase anything and everything. From the quaint charm of the bustling street markets, where local produce is the order of the day, to the cool interiors of the supermarkets, to the enormity of the hypermarkets with their racks of wines and cheeses, there is little that so characterises the French shopping experience. Luckily, Landivisiau is noted for offering all these types of shopping opportunities, so don't forget your wallet and your shopping basket!
Landivisiau is typically Breton, and herein lies its charm. You will see plenty of colombage buildings, that is, half-timbered houses in the traditional style, and there is a hint of salt in the fresh air that tells you the sea is never really far away in Finistère, even when you are in the centre of an inland town. This is Brittany, pure and true, so when you settle in a restaurant (of which there are many in the town) to enjoy a lunch or dinner, the best choices are the local specialities, the seafood, the crepes, the excellent Breton galettes... and locally produced cheeses. Yes, you can get pizza or even a McDonald's in the locality, but when you can choose delicious traditional Breton fare, who would want anything else?
Finistère offers many wonderful places to visit, and the town of Landivisiau makes a great base for further exploration. The coastline is as dramatic, clean and beautiful as anyone could hope for, and days spent at the easily accessible white sand beaches of the department are a pleasure not to be missed. Try the excellent sandy beach of Laber, at Roscoff, or for sheer drama go to the awe inspiring cliffs of Crozon. The mediaeval walled town of Concarneau is a lovely place to visit, and for something a little different, try taking the boat for a short trip to the lovely island of Batz, which has a lighthouse and some fabulous exotic gardens to visit.
Sporting enthusiasts will not be short of ways to expend their energies in and around Landivisiau. Brittany as a region is full of sporting possibilities, and with the seaside never too far away, water sports are always popular. The town also has a swimming pool, cycle hire, horse-riding and some excellent trout fishing.
To get to Landivisiau you can fly to Dinard with Ryanair or Aurigny, or to Brest with Ryanair or flybe. Or you can travel by ferry to St Malo or Roscoff.
Finistère is said to represent good value in property terms, being generally lower priced than the neighbouring departments of the Côtes d'Armor or Morbihan. Landivisiau, being inland rather than on the coast, can offer some truly tempting bargains, with some gorgeous character properties currently on the market.
