For buying and selling property in Saint Pierre de Plesguen
Saint Pierre de Plesguen is a charming rural town set in the green countryside of the Ille et Vilaine department in Brittany. And although the town has plenty of shops and services and is within easy reach of the city of Rennes, it's a haven of tranquillity and typically French. It offers a truly relaxing lifestyle.
Saint Pierre de Plesguen offers good facilities with a range of local shops including bakers, butchers, a pharmacy, post office and a supermarket for convenience. In addition, there are bars and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the best of the area's food and drink. Services available include schools, doctors, a dentist and a bank.
The town has a 12th century church which is quite an important monument and attracts many visitors. When walking around the town, keep an eye out for the lovely local fine, dark blue granite which features in many of the houses.
Saint Pierre is surrounded by very pretty countryside, typical of the Ille et Vilaine. Green pastures, gently undulating terrain and quiet country lanes make for idyllic walking. Close by you'll find plenty more opportunities to enjoy the fresh air and countryside, with lots of activities at hand.
Cycling and horse-riding are ideally suited to this area, but there are also a number of good golf courses. Saint Malo's Golf and Country Club has 27 parkland holes to enjoy, while Dinard offers a links course which is highly rated. Once at the seaside, of course, sea and beach sports are also available.
A drive of only fifteen minutes takes you to the port town of St Malo. Saint Malo's old sector is packed with interest and there's great shopping and dining plus safe, sandy beaches. The mediaeval town of Dinan, the jewel of Brittany, is also close by, and offers a charming ambience. Here you can find quaint streets, half-timbered houses and a bustling river port. Rennes, Brittany's vibrant and historic capital city is not to be missed, and is more than worth the 25-minute drive.
The airports of Dinard and Rennes are both easily accessible, while the ferry port of Saint Malo is just minutes from the town. Dinard is served by Ryanair and Aurigny, and Rennes by Flybe. Drivers can find Saint Pierre on the N2137/D10, not far from the N176, which is a major road and a non toll motorway.
In spite of being home to the regional capital, the Ille et Vilaine is sometimes the forgotten department of Brittany among foreigners. The French have appreciated it for many years though, and prices are not low. However, if you steer clear of the coast and the main towns, property gets cheaper. Stick to country towns in the west of the department like Saint Pierre de Plesguen, and there are bargains to be found. In fact, in 2012 we already have several lovely traditional stone houses for sale for under 200,000 Euros.
