For buying and selling property in Guilliers
Guilliers is an attractive and unassuming little village that will appeal to those seeking an authentic bolthole in Brittany. Away from the crowds of the better known Breton destinations, Guilliers has its own distinctive character and charm. It's a market village, and offers all basic shops and services. It's also easily accessible from St Malo's ferry port, so if you can only get away to your French property at weekends or for short breaks, it's ideally situated.
The built heritage of this old village includes its lovely church and many original houses. The overall atmosphere is one of a peaceful, very French, rural village. There's also a beautiful fishing lake, the Étang du Chateau Tro, adding natural beauty to the picture.
The weekly market (Tuesdays) takes place in the Place de l'Eglise, and is a lovely way to shop. Just take a basket, allow yourself time to savour the sights, sounds and scents and get browsing! The village is also home to a supermarket and many smaller shops, so there's no problem getting the groceries in. There's a primary school, should you be moving to live in Guilliers with young children. The village also boasts a very good auberge restaurant.
The beautiful natural lake, the Étang du Chateau Tro, is well stocked with fish. Ask at the Mairie about permits. The area around the village offers a variety of randonnées, or designated walking trails, and some of these are also suitable for horse-riding. Golfers can enjoy a nine-hole course at nearby Ploermel.
St Malo is just an hour away from Guilliers, and is so much more than just the place you disembark from the ferry. If you haven't spent time exploring St Malo yet, allow at least a full day. It's lovely. Its beaches, heritage, shopping and great restaurants are all features. Then there's mediaeval Dinan, the jewel of Brittany with its ramparts, maze of tiny cobbled streets and quaint river port. See too the chateau town of Josselin, or spend time in Ploermel, home to a superb water sports base, the Lac au Duc.
Dinard's little airport has cheap flights direct from the UK with Ryanair for air travellers. Rennes is also nearby, with flights being offered by Flybe. St Malo is the nearest ferry port, and is served by Brittany Ferries. Finally, if you're driving you'll find Guilliers can be accessed via a variety of roads, from the N24 or N164 motorways.
We've currently got properties in Guilliers running from under 100,000 Euros to 399,000 Euros, so there should be something there to suit most budgets.
