For buying and selling property in La Croix-Helléan
Brittany, and especially the Morbihan department, is extremely popular with overseas property seekers. And, it enjoys an equal popularity with the French, who love the region for its history, traditions and beauty. So, if you're looking to buy a holiday home in Brittany, you might find that prices can be high in the popular towns and villages. However, just a mile or two outside these well known locations are little villages like La Croix Helléan, where property can be found at bargain prices. And you still get to enjoy the attractions of towns like mediaeval Josselin, right on the doorstep!
The village has several historical sights and monuments, in spite of its small size and rural attitude. There are three crosses, perhaps unsurprisingly given the name of the village! Then there is a 15th century church, the Chapelle Saint Maud, fountains and a 16th century tomb in the graveyard of the parish church. The surrounding countryside and neighbouring villages and towns offer many more examples of Brittany's rich heritage.
As La Croix Helléan is just a tiny village, you'll need to pop out to get the shopping or to dine in a restaurant. However, you won't have to go far! The mediaeval town of Josselin (widely acclaimed as one of the most beautiful in the region) is just along the road. And, Josselin has plenty of shops, restaurants, sights and entertainment to enjoy.
The wonderful thing about Brittany is that no matter where you are in the region, you can always reach the seaside within a short drive. Even the port town of St Malo is only two to three hours away. Closer to home, you have water sports and beaches at the Lac au Duc (Ploermel) and the Château of Josselin. Then there is the Nantes Brest Canal, great for a boat trip or leisurely walk along the tow path, cycling trails, golf and even go-karting. And equestrians are in luck, as there is a very good equestrian centre near to the village for horse-riding.
Dinard's airport has cheap flights direct from the UK with Ryanair for air travellers. Rennes Airport is also an option. St Malo is the nearest ferry port, and is served by Brittany Ferries. Finally, if you're driving you'll find La Croix Helléan on the D323. The nearest major road is the N24.
Property in small villages like La Croix Helléan is usually much cheaper than that found in well known locations, even though they are only a few miles away. If you want to build your own home, you can currently (July 2012) buy a great building plot in La Croix Helléan for just 26,500 Euros. Or, if you prefer something more ready to live in, there are some lovely properties on the market at the time of writing, ranging from 148,400 Euros to 291,500 Euros.
