For buying and selling property in Le Faouet
If it is character that attracts you to a town, then don't miss out on seeing the little market town of Le Faouet, which is found in the north-west of France, in southern Brittany. The life (and the main point of interest) of Le Faouet seems to revolve around its fabulous old market hall, but there is a lovely atmosphere here as well as a real sense of community.
The department of Morbihan, where the town is found, is well known for its beautiful seascapes and landscapes, and Le Faouet sits in the midst of the latter and close enough to the former to benefit from both.
If you ever go to a French market, then make sure it is this one in Le Faouet. The location is everything. This market sets up under the intricate canopy of a rare, perfect example of a 16th century market hall. As you pace the ancient mud and straw flooring, browsing the stalls for the freshest and best of local produce, you can almost hear the voices of long dead marketeers, speaking, of course, in Breton, which was the main language spoken in the town right up until the 1950s when French became the official language.
Le Faouet has a range of shops, a supermarket, a cinema, a museum and several bars, cafés and restaurants, so all your everyday needs can be met without having to leave town. Of course, there are many larger towns around and about that you can visit for greater facilities, with some of the liveliest being at the coast, which offers some large resorts with excellent shopping, dining and entertainment at less than an hour's drive away.
Morbihan has much to please, and the area near Le Faouet is well worth exploring. There are the mysterious and famous standing stones to see, and the beautiful beaches of southern Brittany, which are perfect for seaside days out. The coast offers a whole range of water sports, and in the towns and countryside both at the coast and near Le Faouet, you can find golf courses, riding stables, tennis courts and facilities for many other sports.
Brittany has international airports at Lorient, Brest, Dinard and Rennes. Lorient is served by Aer Arann; Brest by flybe and Ryanair; Dinard by Aurigny and Ryanair; and Rennes by flybe and Aer Lingus. Those who prefer to travel by boat can take the ferry to Roscoff or St Malo and then drive to Le Faouet. Le Faouet lies between the N165 and N165.
Morbihan has the warmest climate in Brittany, and this is one factor that has made it one of the more expensive areas to buy property. However, inland towns such as Le Faouet offer excellent value for money.
