For buying and selling property in Loyat
The unspoilt countryside of the Morbihan department of Brittany is the setting for the charming small village of Loyat. Steeped in history and offering an interesting heritage, Loyat is conveniently situated towards the centre of the Breton region, offering great access to all its acclaimed attractions.
Loyat's most impressive heritage building is the superb 18th century chateau. It's possible to arrange visits and tours around the castle and grounds to get a unique glimpse of this elegant piece of Breton history. Further evidence of Loyat's past can be seen in the form of the Loyat Wayside Cross, the chapels of Trégadoret and Crétudel, an ancient bridge, the village church and an old watermill.
Loyat is essentially just a peaceful, rural village, so don't expect to find hypermarkets and nightclubs! However, there are some useful amenities including a boulangerie where you can buy delicious croissants and freshly baked bread, a small supermarket for general goods and groceries, a pharmacy and even a bar/café and small restaurant. For those times when you need greater facilities, the market town of Ploermel is just up the road, offering plenty of shops and a weekly street market.
Loyat is on the edge of the Voie Verte, a great cycling track created from a disused railway line. Following this on a bike or on foot is a lovely way to enjoy both being active and discovering the glorious Breton countryside. Then there's the Lac au Duc, which is Brittany's biggest natural lake. It offers various water sports or you can simply take a picnic and relax by the water's edge. The lake is also excellent for fishing, having a good stock of perch, pike and carp. Even golfers will find the opportunity to indulge in the sport right beside the lake, on a very pleasant nine-hole course.
When you are in Brittany, wherever you are, the seaside is always within reach. From Loyat you can enjoy the sheltered south-facing beaches of Morbihan, or head for the dramatic cliffs and splendour of the coast of the Côtes-d'Armor. But, inland Brittany has plenty of great places to see as well. Josselin is a delightful market town, well worth a visit, while the historic city of Vannes is a must see.
If you want to travel by air, you can fly to Rennes, Brest or to Dinard. Nantes is another possibility. Or you can make the ferry crossing to Roscoff or St Malo, which are the nearest of the ferry ports. Caen and Cherbourg are a little further away but offer more possibilities and may be cheaper. If you're driving you'll find the village on the D13, close to the N24 motorway.
Loyat currently offers quite a lot of property for your money. Attractive properties and attractive prices combine to make Loyat more than worth a look if you are house hunting in Brittany in 2012.
