Mauron is a small town, with just over 3,000 residents, but it is a lively place, with a goodly complement of shops and restaurants. Its surroundings are delightful, having the mythical Forest of Brocéliande on the doorstep, and being set within easy reach of many of the best attractions of the region.
You will want for nothing, in Mauron, as the town has plenty of small shops and also a couple of supermarkets, catering for all your everyday needs. There are lots of opportunities to dine out here too, with an eclectic collection of eateries ranging from crèperies and pizzerias to traditional brasseries. The town itself is attractive and traditionally Breton in style, and has some interesting 17th century houses, a pretty church and several other historic buildings. There are also plenty of leisure activities around, with a golf course nearby, plus lakes which are popular with fishermen.
Mauron is extremely well situated for getting the best out of Breton life. Nearby attractions include the delightful Forest of Brocéliande, legendary home of King Arthur, with its glorious walking trails, plus the Greenway Lane which is perfect for cyclists. Nearby is the lovely mediaeval town of Josselin, complete with a chateau and an atmospheric and colourful market held on Saturday mornings.
Ploermel, Vannes and Rennes are all within less than an hour's drive away. The coast is accessible in several directions; to the north lie the popular resorts and beaches of the Côtes-d'Armor, while Morbihan's lovely south facing coast, warm and sunny, is just over half an hour's drive to the south.
The closest airports are Rennes and Dinard, served by Flybe, and Aurigny and Ryanair respectively. The ferry is another option, with the closest ferry ports being St Malo and Roscoff. Drivers will find the village from the D2, D766, D6, or D16 roads, with the nearest major roads being the N12 and N24.
Brittany prices have risen in recent years, but there is still plenty of affordable property around, especially in inland locations. In and around Mauron, you should find that a budget of under 200,000 Euros buys you a lot of house for your dosh!
