Rohan - the ancestral seat of an aristocratic family

The village of Rohan, which is set against the scenic backdrop of the Nantes-Brest Canal in the Morbihan department of Brittany, in north-west France, is renowned as being the ancestral seat of the important and aristocratic Rohan family, who carried considerable influence in historical Brittany. Rohan is a lively village, equipped with shops and services, and its location in the centre of the region allows easy access to all the very best attractions of Brittany.

Life in the village has a lively feel

Rohan is typically Breton, with old houses built of local stone and slate, its appeal enhanced further by the glorious setting that it enjoys on the banks of the Nantes-Brest Canal, which runs through the centre of the village. Life in Rohan has a lively feel, with a good handful of local shops and services, bars, cafés and even a Michelin-starred restaurant to allow you to really relax and dine in style.

Enjoy the activities offered by the Nantes-Brest Canal

The Nantes-Brest Canal offers lovely walks and cycle rides along its banks, or the opportunity to take a boat to enjoy the countryside of this lovely part of northern France. There are plenty of other activities available locally too. Within reach of the village you can find golf courses, horse-riding stables, swimming, tennis, sailing and water sports on nearby leisure lakes and much more.

Out and about

Rohan's location, in the heart of Brittany, means that all of this fabulous region is accessible. Although the village lies inland, the coast is not too far away, and whether you decide to head for the northern coast of the Côtes d'Armor with lively and well developed resorts, the wild western cliffs of Finistère or Morbihan's pretty, sandy beaches, you will find a beach to suit you.

Explore megalithic sites and mediaeval towns

Morbihan has a mystical element, with megalithic sites and many legends surrounding these. Take a trip to see the amazing standing stones at Carnac, or discover a more recent history as you wander the mediaeval streets of towns such as Ploermel or Josselin.

How to get there

If you prefer the convenience and speed of air travel, you can fly to either Dinard, Rennes or Brest direct from the UK. Dinard is served by Aurigny and Ryanair, Rennes by Flybe, and Brest by Ryanair and Flybe. The ferry can take you quite close to your destination via the ports of Roscoff and St Malo, while drivers can find the village from the D2, D17 or D41 roads. The nearest major roads are the N164 and N24.

Property prices and availability in and around Rohan

Brittany, due to its longstanding popularity with holiday makers and property seekers, has certain areas that have become quite expensive in recent times, but these tend to be mainly on the coast. Villages such as Rohan, situated inland, can offer excellent bargain properties, with village houses hitting the market for anything from 35,000 Euros.
