For buying and selling property in Châteauroux
Belying its nearness to the bustling capital of France, (it lies just two hours south of Paris) Châteauroux is a peaceful and lovely town. It is also the cultural centre of the area, and you will find plenty to interest you here, especially during the summer months when there are festivals and exhibitions in abundance.
The town itself is built around its oldest quarter, which is found near to the river. The newer part fans out around this nucleus, with a suburban sector on the right bank. Even in the newer part of town however, you are never far from a sense of the important history and heritage of Châteauroux. In one of the main squares stands a statue of General Henri Bertrand and the Hôtel de Ville houses both a library and a museum containing some interesting Napoleonic artefacts. Principal buildings in Châteauroux include the modern though Gothic-styled church of St. Andre, and the Château Raoul itself, built in the 14th and 15th centuries, and from which the town derives its name.
Châteauroux also offers all the modern facilities you will need, such as banks, medical care, schools and shops. Shopping here is easy as the town has supermarkets, chain stores and smaller more personal boutiques to explore and enjoy. Its proximity to Paris also means that should you need the amenities which can only be found in a major city, perhaps for business purposes, you do not have to travel too far to find them.
Those who love the wide open spaces need not travel too far from Châteauroux, as the town sits in the lovely Loire valley which is famed for its peaceful green fields and fairytale châteaux that pepper the horizon, and which take your breath away with their sheer beauty. Nature lovers will relish a visit to the La Prairie nature reserve on the Indre River, and foodies will be happy to taste the local specialities of goats' cheeses and delicate white wines.
Being situated in central France means that you do not have to drive too far to reach Châteauroux from Paris, and the capital can be accessed from the UK by a variety of means. It is possible to fly to the town of Tours with Ryanair, or to take a TGV from Paris. After this you will need to link to a local train for Châteauroux, or hire a car.
There is no escaping the fact that the Loire Valley is a popular area for property seekers, and prices have been pushed up in recent years as a result. Careful searching however, can pay off, as the area around Châteauroux is often less expensive than other parts of central France. Property within the town itself will be more expensive than in the surrounding areas.
