For buying and selling property in Nogent le Rotrou
Nogent le Rotrou is a delightfully atmospheric market town that is located in the Eure et Loir department in the Centre Val de Loire region. The department, which lies some way south-west of Paris, is perhaps not so well known to British house hunters as many parts of France, but its charms, which include a rich heritage and a superb standard of living, should ensure that its popularity, already rising, can only increase.
Nogent le Rotrou is known for its superb chateau, which has its beginnings as far back as the 11th century. The dominant feature of Nogent le Rotrou, the chateau, is open to visitors and houses an interesting regional museum.
Nogent le Rotrou is very much a market town, and is one of the two major centres in the department serving as an outlet for the excellent local farm produce. The market, held on Saturday mornings, is one of the best of its type, and a visit is highly recommended!
Nogent le Rotrou is well supplied with small and pleasant shops, and there are plenty of chances to purchase the local specialities such as cider and the standard French essentials such as fresh baked baguettes and delicate pastries. There are some very good restaurants in the town too, and a selection of cafés and bars for those informal occasions when you want to relax alone or with friends. For those big city shopping trips of course there is Paris, at only an hour and half away by rail, or, a little closer to home, the lovely cathedral town of Chartres, Le Mans or Tours.
The area around the town offers plenty of sporting action. You can enjoy golf, horse-riding, tennis, fishing, swimming, cycling and many more activities without having to travel far afield. Nogent le Rotrou is great for atmospheric entertainment too, and there are fêtes and festivals held in the town and in the grounds of the chateau, celebrating the rich heritage of the region. Horse lovers will enjoy seeing the pride of the Perche region, the beautiful heavy horse breed, the Percheron, which makes an appearance at most of these events.
You can fly or take the train to either Paris or Tours, making Nogent le Rotrou very accessible from the UK. Tours is served by Ryanair, and Paris by a multitude of airlines including Air France, British Airways, bmi, bmibaby, flybe, easyJet, Jet2, Thomsonfly and Aer Lingus. If driving, take the N23 to find the town.
The proximity to Paris makes property in Nogent Rotrou fairly pricey, and the desirability factor goes up again with the sheer charm of the town and its rural market town lifestyle. If you are seeking a special property in an area with history and character, however, coupled with accessibility to both the UK and to Paris, then you really couldn't start your search in a better place.
