For buying and selling property in Belpech
Belpech is an ancient village situated in the south of France in the department of the Aude. It is also close to the border with the Ariège, and has easy access to both the Pyrénéan Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Belpech has a long and rich history, and retains plenty of its interesting heritage to this day. The countryside surrounding the village is typically that of the Lauragais plain, with cereal crops and sunflower fields, backed by rolling hills.
Belpech has a good collection of small shops and even a supermarket, while access to many larger shops and commercial zones is just a matter of zipping a few miles along the road to the large town of Pamiers. However all the usual necessary services can also be found in Belpech, with a school, doctor's surgery, petrol station and cash point. Residents can dine out in the village's restaurant, which organises occasional entertainment as well. Belpech's heritage includes the ruins of the original castle keep, a Gallo Roman bridge and a mediaeval church.
Close to Belpech is the beautiful lake of Montbel, where there are lots of leisure activities available in, on or around the water. The Lauragais is famed for its cuisine of cassoulet and duck products, and if this takes your fancy, it is but a short drive into the town of Castelnaudary where you can taste the most authentic cassoulet in France… or so it is claimed!
The village's location, on the Aude/Ariège border opens up all sorts of possibilities for enjoying the very diverse attractions of this area. The fairytale walled city of Carcassonne is within an easy drive, as is the cosmopolitan city of Toulouse. Just up the road you can find Pamiers, a lively town full of things to do and see, while the Pyrénéan Mountains offer walking, skiing and many other sports and activities, as well as their stunning beauty.
Planes and trains can get you to Toulouse. Toulouse airport is served by British Airways, easyJet, Jet2, Flybe, BMI Baby and Ryanair, while the TGV serves the station. Carcassonne's airport, served by Ryanair, offers another travel option. The auto route system also gives easy access via the A61/A66 for drivers.
Prices in this corner of the Aude are usually quite low, offering the chance to grab a bargain. If, however, you have a good budget, it is also possible to find some beautiful character properties in or near to Belpech. Currently on the market (2011) is a large five bedroom village house for just under 170,000 Euros, as well as a beautifully renovated stone barn for 195,000 Euros.
