For buying and selling property in Gruissan
Gruissan, the old port town in the Aude department of the south of France, is a fascinating town that was built in concentric circles around its ancient fort. Today, Gruissan retains much of its original charm, but has added to this the thoroughly modern pleasures of an excellent marina, superb seafood restaurants and a lively, happy holiday atmosphere.
There is no better way to while away a hot summer's day than by sitting at a charming restaurant in Gruissan, watching the fishing boats and pleasure craft come and go in the marina, whilst enjoying the tastiest catch of the day washed down with a glass of something very good and locally produced. There is always something to watch, whether it be the arrival of a fishing boat with its tasty cargo, or the flashy millionaire's yacht berthed for the night.
For those who enjoy nothing like a French market, Gruissan offers a cornucopia of delights, with no less than three markets held every week, near the port. Best buys include the mussels and oysters for which the area is so well known.
Gruissan is also a great place for wine lovers. It is possible to visit the local caves and taste the wares before deciding on your own personal favourites to buy. Another recommended way of spending an afternoon or two! The Gruissan Co Operative Wine Cellar also offers a novel suggestion for an evening out. In July and August every Monday evening, a wine and local produce tasting is held, a meal served and a dance follows!
Possibly thanks to its popularity with the tourists, Gruissan is a well equipped town, and you will be able to find most of your everyday requirements without having to leave the resort. Should you need the resources of a larger city, however, Béziers and Carcassonne are not far away. Gruissan has plenty of shops, banks and similar necessary facilities, though, so you will probably find yourself quite happy to hang around for most of the time.
Gruissan has superb safe, clean, sandy beaches, so grab your swimming things and head off for a spot of sun and seaside fun! It's a fantastic place for families, with loads to keep the kids occupied, including kids clubs where they can learn circus skills, rock climbing, play tennis and all manner of exciting activities. If you are looking for an activity yourself, you won't have to look far. In or close to Gruissan you can sail, fish, swim, play tennis, go horse-riding, cycling or walking. It's probably a good idea to take some healthy exercise after all that seafood and wine!
Reaching Gruissan from the UK is inexpensive and simple, thanks to the budget airlines who serve the local airports. Ryanair fly into Carcassonne, Montpellier, Perpignan and Nīmes, while Toulouse is served by British Airways, easyJet, bmi and Jet2. TGV trains also run to Narbonne which is very close to Gruissan.
There are many different types of property available in Gruissan, with lots of clean, modern and easy to maintain villas and apartments appearing on the market regularly. Property overlooking or very close to the sea or harbour tends to be the most sought after and therefore the most expensive. Prices compare well with those further east in Provence, but as always, property near to the Med comes at a price.
