For buying and selling property in Port la Nouvelle
Port la Nouvelle is a fishing town and sparkly seaside resort in the Aude department of southern France. The town has a little of everything, with plenty to do for all tastes and ages in the summer months, and it still retains some interesting features despite having a large tourist appeal and many modern apartments.
In the words of the song which has recently been popularised by the Marks and Spencer's adverts on television, if you want to marry a light house keeper and live by the side of the sea, then Port la Nouvelle may be a good place to start looking to fulfil at least part of that dream. I can't promise the lighthouse keeper, or marriage, but there is a real lighthouse at the entrance to the town's harbour, and this adds a definite "je ne sais quoi" to the ambience of the resort... and it is, absolutely, by the side of the sea... and the beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea at that!
Port la Nouvelle is delightfully Mediterranean in its ambience, and a morning spent exploring the local harbour front market is nothing less than a delight. Treat yourself to the riches and treasures of this region, with honey straight from the bees, olives from the trees and all the light, colours and sounds of the Mediterranean laid out before your eyes.
Port la Nouvelle is well equipped and you should find that all mod cons and leisure facilities too are on hand within the town's limits. There are shops and supermarkets, banks and cash points, schools and doctors. Then on the less practical but more enjoyable side, there are some excellent restaurants and lively bars, and in the summer months there is also no end of activities taking place.
Port la Nouvelle offers all the pleasures of a Med resort, with sea and beach based sports ever popular and easily available. Also in the region you can find tennis, golf, mini golf, horse-riding, great walking and river sports such as canyoning and kayaking. Places of interest to visit in the area include the Cathar cities of Carcassonne and Béziers and the pretty fishing villages of Sète and Gruissan. There is a great safari park too, at Sigean, where you can enjoy seeing wild animals in a natural habitat... and this is open all year round.
It is remarkably inexpensive and easy, thanks to the budget airlines who serve the local airports, to get to Port la Nouvelle from the UK. Ryanair fly into Carcassonne, Montpellier, Perpignan and Nīmes, with Perpignan also being served by bmibaby and flybe, and Montpellier by easyJet. Meanwhile Toulouse is served by British Airways, easyJet, flybe, Jet2 and bmi. Trains also run to the area, with Narbonne having a TGV station making rail travel all the way from the UK quick and straightforward.
Port la Nouvelle is an attractive seaside resort with some authenticity, and one where it is possible to purchase a good property without paying the inflated prices of the Riviera. Property is expensive when compared with some inland areas of France, but if your heart is set on a Mediterranean seaside home and your budget doesn't stretch to Nice or St Tropez, then Port la Nouvelle could be worth your attention.
