Marseillan Plage - a beach resort on the Med

Marseillan Plage is a great beach resort situated right on the lovely Mediterranean coast in the south of France. It is the coastal part of the town of Marseillan (Marseillan Property Guide), which lies a little distance inland, on the shores of the lagoon known as the Étang de Thau. While Marseillan is an ancient fishing port, with old buildings and an historical feel, Marseillan Plage offers all the fun of a modern resort town, with excellent holiday facilities and a lively ambience. (The population given here includes that of Marseillan.)

Perfect for holidays

If you want a holiday base in the south of France you would have to look far afield to go past Marseillan Plage. The situation is perfect, and the region really does offer something to keep everyone happy, no matter what their ages or interests. The resort itself has lots of shops, restaurants and entertainment, and of course there is one of the best beaches on the Med to enjoy on those long sunny summer days.

Fantastic for families

Marseillan Plage is very proud of its beaches, and keeps them clean and safe for all the family. The sands are cleaned daily, and the long sloping beaches mean that everyone, from toddlers to adults, can enjoy a paddle or a swim without getting out of their depth. With at least four lifeguards on duty at any one time too, Marseillan Plage is the perfect place for a family beach holiday.

Fun for all

Escaping the children for a while is another benefit offered by the resort, as children's clubs and organised sports activities will keep them happy and occupied giving the adults time to really relax. Adults shouldn't feel left out of the fun either, as you can take part in beach sports such as volleyball or even relapse into childhood and try building sandcastles, swim, sail, surf or just sunbathe.

Harbour life

Marseillan Plage harbour lies at the mouth of the Grau de Pisse Saumes, at the point where it joins the Mediterranean Sea, and with its 165 moorings for pleasure craft provides a hub of activity and a colourful spectacle even if you don't take to the water yourself. There is something about a harbour on the Med that enlivens any scene, and a sense of life being lived to the full permeates the resort.

Night-life

Marseillan Plage has a great variety of night-life, with bars, restaurants, clubs and cafés to suit all tastes and pockets. You can cosy up in an intimate little brasserie and enjoy the superb cuisine and wines of the south of France, or dance the night away in a club or disco. Take your pick according to your mood, and rest assured that you will never be bored.

Around the region

The Languedoc region of southern France is historically one of the richest and most interesting in the country. With its Cathar heritage you can be sure that there will always be something new to discover, and there are a myriad of fascinating places to visit near Marseillan Plage. The fairytale city of Carcassonne is within easy reach for an enjoyable day out, as are the region's numerous castles and ancient villages. The area is one of the most prolific and oldest wine producing regions in France too, so if you have an interest in wine, grab the chance to take a tour of the vineyards and learn about the age old processes that transform the humble grape into the nectar of the Gods.

How to get there

Property prices and availability in and around Marseillan Plage
