For buying and selling property in Sérignan
Sérignan is a Mediterranean town that is found in the department of the Hérault, in the sunshine region of Languedoc-Roussillon. At once both old and new, Sérignan is a town of two halves, with the modern beach resort of Sérignan Plage and the older town of Sérignan. Sérignan Plage has a pretty port, much entertainment on offer and gorgeous sandy beaches, while the older town of Sérignan is found five minutes inland. Here you will find ancient buildings, which have been sun baked for centuries.
One thing you can be sure of, though, Sérignan has a modern outlook on life, and has tirelessly dedicated itself to a programme of tasteful development aimed at attracting tourism, improving the economy and providing an enviable quality of life for its residents.
Sérignan is not one of those sleepy old French towns where you would be lucky to find a village shop and perhaps a "tabac presse" bar as a social centre! Here in Sérignan you will find everything you could possibly need for day to day living, with shops, supermarkets, bars, wine caves and even a gourmet restaurant! Sérignan also hosts no less than three street markets each week, leaving you with no excuse not to buy the most delicious of local produce in the traditional manner.
For those of you who may be considering a permanent move to Sérignan, and perhaps would be bringing a young family along, the schools in the town are excellent for little ones. Older children would have to go to Béziers, which is well within reach.
Sérignan and its immediate surroundings offer a whole host of activities and interesting paces to go. The town itself has tennis courts and several sports clubs, and nearby you can go horse-riding, river swimming, play golf, walk or cycle. Then, of course, there is the wonderful beach resort of Sérignan Plage, with all the usual seaside activities and a full programme of entertainment for all the family throughout the summer. If sporting activities aren't really your bag, try visiting the numerous wine caves where you can learn a little about the local wines, taste a selection and take home the ones you like the best!
The area has a great and turbulent history, and there is plenty of mystery about it too. The cities of Béziers and Carcassonne tell tales of the tragic Cathars, while the marshy Camargue to the east has wild white horses and connections to the great artists such as Van Gogh. The inland countryside is wild and beautiful, with the Mediterranean feeling intensified by the aromatic garrigue, the tall pine trees and silvery olive trees, and the neat rows of vines that produce some of the tastiest wines of the region. The coast offers long, sandy beaches and warm blue seas, and all of this is topped off by fabulous sunshine for most of the year!
There are several airports in the region, making air travel simple. Béziers is the nearest, and then you have the choice of Carcassonne, Montpellier, Perpignan, Toulouse or Nîmes. Béziers is served by Ryanair and Flybe; Carcassonne by Ryanair; Montpellier by easyJet and Ryanair; Perpignan by Ryanair, bmibaby and flybe; Toulouse by British Airways, easyJet, bmi, Jet2 and flybe; and Nîmes by Ryanair. Train travel is another possibility, with a TGV station at nearby Narbonne. If you are driving you will find the town on the coastal side of the A9 auto route.
Well, it certainly isn't the cheapest of departments, but when compared with other parts of the Med, property here actually offers much better value for money than you might have expected. If you are planning to rent out the property during the holiday season you should do well, as Sérignan is one of the best loved destinations in the department.
