For buying and selling property in Cabestany
The town of Cabestany, situated in the far south of France on the edge of the city of Perpignan, is a wine making town which also enjoys one of the highest sunshine records in France. The town has a very Mediterranean feel to it, with palm trees, wide clean streets and a seemingly ever blue sky. Added to these blessings is the fact that Cabestany is less than ten minutes from the beautiful sandy beaches of the Mediterranean, and you will quickly understand the town's appeal for British property seekers.
Cabestany is perfectly situated for both convenience and pleasure. It is less than ten minutes from some of the Med's best beaches, with Canet- Plage being the nearest. Here the warm, blue waters of the Med are supplemented by all the usual seaside delights of cafés, bars and restaurants, and a lively social scene in high season. In Cabestany itself there are also numerous bars and restaurants, with a good selection of shops and services too. If by any chance you should find that you need something that Cabestany can't supply (though I can't think what!), the city of Perpignan is on your doorstep, at less than five minutes drive away.
There are lots of opportunities to explore the surrounding area too, with fascinating and beautiful places such as the mediaeval walled city of Carcassonne, the picturesque fishing villages of the Roussillon coast, the Pyrenean Mountains and even the fabulous Spanish city of Barcelona all within easy day trip travelling time.
The Master of Cabestany is thought to have been an itinerant sculptor. His distinctive work can be found all around the region, but the town of Cabestany which gives him the soubriquet, has a particularly wonderful example in the famous Tympanum of the Assumption, found in the church.
The town's location, close to both the Mediterranean and to the mountains gives a great choice of sports. Indeed, most sports and leisure activities can be accessed from Cabestany, including horse-riding, canoeing, surfing, water skiing, swimming, cycling and walking. Those who prefer to undertake less strenuous pastimes will perhaps enjoy a wine tour of the region, with a chance to sample some of the delicious Côte de Roussillon wines.
Perpignan airport is on the doorstep, and offers flights with Ryanair, flybe and bmibaby. The TGV fast train stops at Perpignan too, making train travel an excellent choice.
Property in the area is not cheap, but it does tend to have a good rental potential, which is handy if you are not planning to live there all year round. It does, however, compare very favourably in price with similar places just over the border into Spain, where property prices are very high. In fact, many Spaniards are moving to Cabestany to take advantage of the price difference, and are commuting to work in Barcelona from the French town.
