Compreignac - an old fortified town

Compreignac is a small fortified town lying on a hill overlooking the green countryside of the rural Haute-Vienne. Peaceful and authentic, the town is ideally located for accessing the city of Limoges and the many beautiful villages, monuments and lakes for which the area is noted.

Explore the town's heritage

The heritage of Compreignac can be seen in the remains of the fortifications and the stunning fortified church, said to be one of the most beautiful of its type in the region. Most of the town's houses and buildings are authentic and give an attractive, olde worlde air to Compreignac.

Amenities on offer

Although the town is small, it does offer some basic facilities, with a baker's, a butcher's, a tabac and a very useful little supermarket. Much greater facilities and amenities are available in the surrounding area, with Limoges, the capital city of the region, just half an hour's drive away. Restaurants can be found just outside the town.

Enjoy the wonderful countryside

The Haute-Vienne, and indeed, the whole Limousin region, is a treasure trove of things to do and see whether you are seeking holiday entertainment or activities to add another dimension to a permanent new life in this pretty part of France. The region is known for its vast, unspoilt areas of countryside and farmland, and especially for its stunning lakes which are perfect for fishing, swimming, boating and more.

Get active

The region is an idyllic outdoor playground in other ways too, with great cycling, golf, walking and horse-riding opportunities all found within reach of Compreignac. The capital city of Limoges is very close by, and offers a multitude of things to do, with its porcelain tradition, its museums, shops, restaurants and wonderful cultural events.

How to get there

If you want to travel by air or by the excellent TGV rail service, Limoges is easy to access, with Flybe and Ryanair both flying to Limoges airport. Compreignac is just 30 minutes drive from this city, and is found on the D5, very close to the main A20 auto route (toll road).

Property prices and availability in and around Compreignac

The region of Limousin is known for its low priced property, and although it is becoming more and more popular with overseas property seekers, this is still a great place to find a bargain. Prices of property on the market at the end of 2011 begin at just 13,600 Euros.
