Coussac Bonneval - historic village in the lovely green Limousin

The village of Coussac Bonneval is located in the green heart of France in the pretty agricultural region of the Limousin. There is a rich history to this village, with a beautiful chateau and a heritage of the famous Limoges porcelain. There are lots of picturesque apple orchards around too, which are a beautiful sight in the spring when they are swathed in blossom.

Coussac Bonneval has a fairytale castle

Coussac Bonneval has a beautiful castle, looking as though it has come straight from the film set of Sleeping Beauty! This fabulous fully restored castle is open to the public and offers guided tours. There is also a museum of decorative arts inside. The castle gives a magical air to the village, and its towers and turrets design leaves you in no doubt that you are indeed in France, land of beautiful chateaux!

Coussac Bonneval offers all amenities

The village has all the usual amenities (shops, village school, doctors etc.), with a handful of bars and restaurants thrown in for good measure! Coussac Bonneval isn't a large town, but it offers most of the things you will need for a comfortable daily life. If you love French markets, (and who doesn't?), the nearby town of St Yrieix la Perche has a great market every Friday.

Sports and leisure

The town of St Yrieix la Perche, at some ten minutes driving time from Coussac Bonneval, has a great leisure lake that offers opportunities for various sports as well as lazy days in the sunshine. There's an open air pool here too, so there is no excuse not to get active! Around and about you can find cycle hire, great walking trails, horse-riding and tennis courts... something for all the family.

Out and about

Coussac Bonneval lies in an area of great natural beauty, so country lovers will revel in days out simply enjoying the lush greenery, the lakes, the rivers and the woodlands that abound in this part of rural France. There are, however, lots of places of interest to discover locally too. The city of Limoges is always worth a visit, and it's great for shopping and dining too if you just fancy one of those city days! Then there is the tragic town of Oradour sur Glane, which was the scene of a terrible atrocity in the war, and which has been preserved as a historic monument.

How to get there

You can fly to Limoges with Ryanair and flybe, and the new airport due to open at Brive la Gaillard will also provide another option. The TGV goes to Angoulême, so Coussac Bonneval is altogether very easily accessible from the UK. If travelling by car you will find the village about fifteen minutes from the A20 auto route.
