Darnac - a peaceful hamlet

Darnac, located in the Limousin region to the west of central France, is a peaceful, sleepy little hamlet set in the beautiful, unspoilt countryside of the Haute-Vienne. Picturesque and traditional, Darnac offers an escape from the stress and strain of modern life, yet remains close to larger towns and the city of Limoges, making life easy and comfortable.

Facilities available close by

Darnac, having just under 400 residents, can hardly be described as a town, yet it does offer village bar/restaurant, which serves as a social hub for the villagers. The residents also organise social/cultural events from time to time. If it is a peaceful rural life in the lovely Limousin countryside that appeals to you, Darnac can provide. However, if you choose a home in the hamlet, you needn't worry about being cut off from civilisation, as the surrounding towns and villages offer all the facilities you are likely to need, with shops, markets, restaurants and sporting and cultural events and societies.

A land of rivers and lakes and lovely countryside

Darnac is ideally placed for accessing all the best attractions of the Limousin. This is a land known as France's Lakeland, and near the village you can find excellent fishing in rivers, lakes and private facilities, water sports and swimming in the beautiful leisure lakes and many other sporting activities in the open countryside. The area around Darnac is a walker's paradise, with quiet country lanes, lovely trails across open countryside and character villages to discover along the way.

Visit the mediaeval market village of Le Dorat

Places to visit locally include Limoges, of course, the capital city of the region which is noted for its porcelain tradition; the "martyr" village of Oradour sur Glanes, preserved as a monument to those who died there in a horrifying Nazi atrocity in the Second World War; the lovely mediaeval market village of Le Dorat; and many more. The Haute-Vienne also borders the ever popular Dordogne department, easily within reach for day trips to see the stunning countryside and perhaps to discover the pre-historic Lascaux Caves.

How to get there

Travel by air to Limoges or Poitiers airports. Limoges is served by Ryanair and Flybe while Poitiers is served by Ryanair. If you prefer to travel by train, take the TGV to Limoges or to nearby Angoulême. Drivers can find the village near the D942, from the N147.

Property prices and availability in and around Darnac

In spite of the fact that the Haute-Vienne tends to be a little more expensive in general than the rest of the Limousin region, due to its proximity to the capital and also to the Dordogne, the property market in and around Darnac offers a real opportunity to find a bargain property, a perfect little escape from the modern world. For as little as 150,000 Euros, you could own a pretty, character property in this beautiful part of France.
