The village of Mézières-sur-Issoire (or Mezieres-sur-Issoire) is a rural idyll, situated as it is in the rolling green meadows of classic Limousin countryside. If your dream of a home or holiday home in France is to wake each morning to gaze out of your window over beautiful farmland dotted with peacefully grazing cattle, and to take a leisurely walk to the village centre to buy a fresh baguette for breakfast, then this village could be the place for you.
The village is peaceful and rural, but it is a thriving community with all amenities to hand. You do not even have to leave the village to enjoy shopping or lunching in a pleasant little café, as unlike many country villages in the Limousin, Mézières-sur-Issoire has its own cafés, boulangeries and other shops to cater for your everyday needs. There is even a British owned shop, Farmyard Foods, which offers excellent locally produced foods from animals reared on the farms that surround the village. Mézières-sur-Issoire is a great village for families, as it is a safe and friendly place with a highly rated village school as well.
Even people who move to the French countryside for peace and quiet like to get out and about at times, to see local places of interest or to take part in some of the sporting activities for which France is so famous. There is plenty to do and see around Mézières-sur-Issoire, so whatever your taste you won't be bored if you base yourself here. Limoges, the main town of the region, is only 35 minutes away by car, so there is no excuse not to visit, and perhaps buy some exquisite Limoges pottery for your friends… or treat yourself!
Sports fans will find there is no end of activities available within easy reach of the village. There is cycling, tennis, horse-riding, golf and fishing, and the lovely Limousin countryside just begs to be explored on foot for those who enjoy the gentle activity of walking. The terrain varies from rich rolling pasture land to dark green shady forestry, and then there are rivers and lakes too.
Limousin used to be difficult to access from the UK, but that is no longer the case. You can fly to either Limoges or Poitiers with budget airline Ryanair, or you can take a TGV from Paris, after travelling by Eurostar from London.
Although prices in Limousin are rising due to increased interest in property in the region, the area is still one of the best places in France to find bargain property. Mézières-sur-Issoire is no exception, and there are some lovely and very reasonably priced properties on the market in and around the village. Look out for traditional village houses of stone construction, or farms and barns for conversion in the surrounding countryside. The increasing popularity of the area for holidays means that there is a rental potential also on property here.
