The town of Eauze, which is situated in the south-west of France, is one of the three main centres in the region that are famed for the production of the acclaimed liquor, Armagnac. Known to locals as Eau de Vie, the drink is a legend in this part of France, as well as being popular all over the world. Eauze is an attractive old town, with half-timbered houses and a tranquil air... except during the yearly Armagnac festival! The town is set amidst rolling countryside and vineyards, essential for the production of the acclaimed drink.
There are several sights worth seeing in and around Eauze, if you would like to discover the past life of this charming little mediaeval town and its surrounding area. There is a church with a blend of 15th and 16th century architecture, and many pretty "colombage" or half-timbered houses within the town. Nearby you can find the birthplace of D'Artagnan of the famed Musketeers, many castles and estates dedicated to Armagnac production, and beautiful ancient abbeys and monasteries too. If tales of buried treasure capture your imagination, visit the town's museum that houses the jewels unearthed on the site of the old town, the "Treasure of Eauze".
Eauze has a bustling and vibrant town centre, and there is a very good market held every Thursday, so all you lovers of the French market can enjoy this most traditional of pleasures. The town offers all basic amenities and includes a supermarket and various small shops for those everyday needs. Eauze has some excellent restaurants too, where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere of this mediaeval setting and sample the delicious and rich cuisine for which this region is noted.
This region is so beautiful and offers so many different experiences for those who enjoy the great outdoors. There are many different sports and leisure activities on offer too. In and around Eauze you can access some excellent golf courses, go horse-riding through some of the most delightful countryside in the country, walk, cycle, play tennis, swim and fish in the many lovely rivers and lakes of the region and generally engage in almost any sporting activity you can think of! Even skiing is accessible, with some of the ski stations of the Pyrénées only an hour and a half away from the town.
Eauze is easily accessible from the UK thanks to the airports of Pau, Bergerac and Toulouse, which offer a variety of flights and airlines and are within a relatively short drive of the town. Pau is served by Ryanair; Bergerac by flybe and Ryanair; and Toulouse by British Airways, easyJet, bmi, Jet2 and flybe. The TGV makes another great option, as there are TGV stations at Toulouse and Tarbes, which are not too far away.
Property in and around Eauze can be pricey, as the area is popular especially with British buyers, but it still compares very well with the Languedoc or Provence.

Access: By air: Fly to Pau, Toulouse or Bergerac with a variety of airlines. By rail: The TGV runs to Toulouse or to Tarbes, so with a simple change at Paris you can travel almost all the way by train.
Economy: The production of the liquor Armagnac is the most significant factor in the economy.
Interesting fact: The town's annual Eau de Vie Armagnac Festival is one of France's best known events.
