Blagnac… a great base in the south

There can be few better places to use as a base for exploring the south/south-west of France than Blagnac. The international airport of Toulouse is on your doorstep, allowing easy travel to and from the UK, and the lovely rose-coloured city of Toulouse is right next door. Blagnac has a lively and cosmopolitan outlook on life, and you will find a large number of British people who have settled here in order to work for Airbus. All around Blagnac are large commercial zones housing large shops, hotels and restaurants. If this sounds a little built up for your taste, think again, for Blagnac is only minutes away from the beautiful Canal du Midi and the lovely countryside of the Haute-Garonne.

Shop 'til you drop

If shopping until you drop is your idea of heaven Blagnac will answer your every need. The town has excellent shopping facilities, with large commercial zones where you can find modern stores such as Ikea, supermarkets, as well as a myriad of smaller shops. If this isn't enough for you, the city of Toulouse is only twenty minutes away by bus, and there are services from Blagnac every twenty minutes into the centre of the city.

An ethnic feast of restaurants…

Blagnac and Toulouse, between them, offer an amazing choice of restaurants and cuisines for those who enjoy dining out… and in France, who doesn't? There is a distinctly cosmopolitan feel to Blagnac, due to the proximity of the airport, and this is evident in the unusually (for south-west France) large choice of ethnic eateries available! Of course, you can enjoy fine dining in traditional French style too, or even choose Pizza Hut or McDonalds if you prefer!

Rolling country and a canal too!

The countryside around Blagnac is truly gorgeous, and very typical of the Haute-Garonne region. Rolling fields, often filled with giant burnished sunflowers in the summer, give way to a backdrop of hills, whilst always in view is the line of tall dark trees that mark the progress of the Canal du Midi. Whether you are walking along the towpath, cycling or enjoying some real relaxation on a boat, the Canal du Midi is a haven of beauty. Boats negotiating the many locks provide an interesting spectacle, and you cannot help but marvel at the feat of engineering that created this passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.

Sports for all

Blagnac has a huge sports centre, and most usual sporting activities can be accessed either here or nearby. Outside the town there is plenty of opportunity for horse-riding, water sports on nearby lakes, walking, and golf. The autoroute will take you to the Mediterranean coast in under an hour and a half, and you can make a visit to the beautiful mediaeval city of Carcassonne en route! As you progress towards the coast you will enjoy watching the landscapes changing, as the gentle fields of the Haute-Garonne give way to the vineyards and parasol pines of the Med.

How to get there

Blagnac is one of the easiest towns in France to access from the UK, thanks to its International Airport! Airlines which fly into Blagnac (Toulouse) include easyJet and bmibaby, so it's inexpensive as well. Should you prefer to take the train, after arriving in Paris on Eurostar you can change to a TGV which will take you into the centre of Toulouse. From there it is a twenty minute bus ride to Blagnac. If driving, take the A20 from Paris, then the N20 to Toulouse. The town of Blagnac is accessed from the ring road that circles Toulouse, and is very well signposted.

Property prices and availability in and around Blagnac

Property in Blagnac is cheaper than property in Toulouse itself, but it has seen sharp price increases in recent years. The proximity of the airport makes travelling to and from the UK so easy that Blagnac will always be a popular choice with British house buyers.
