For buying and selling property in Lavit
Lavit is situated in rural south-west France, in the department of the Tarn-et-Garonne. The little town is pretty and traditional, and manages to combine a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere with the provision of all amenities. The town and its environs provide a perfect setting for some of the most delightful and desirable country properties in France, with an abundance of traditional Gascon farmhouses and barns. For those who need a big city fix every now and then, it's good to know that the lovely city of Toulouse is not too far away.
Visit Lavit in July and you cannot fail to be delighted by the glorious sight of the acres upon acres of golden sunflowers that proliferate in the region. In this truly rural and beautiful corner of south-west France you will also discover picturesque orchards, as fruit, especially plums, is grown here in abundance, and provides the basis for the economy.
If you are a lover of bright lights, nightclubs and city streets, the chances are that Lavit will not prove to be the place to buy your French dream home. However, if your idea of heaven is truly unspoiled countryside, dotted with pretty little villages and ancient farms, then Lavit will not disappoint. The village itself is lively enough, with a weekly market in the covered centre selling seasonal local produce, and for lovers of fine food there are some excellent local restaurants to enjoy as well.
Lavit is a little off the beaten track, but not inaccessible from the UK. It benefits from reasonable proximity to Toulouse International Airport, which is served by bmibaby, who fly from Manchester, British Airways, easyJet, flybe and bmi. Toulouse is around 40 miles (60 kilometres) from Lavit. If you prefer to travel by Eurostar, you need to change at Paris or Lille to reach Toulouse.
Lavit is one of the few remaining places in the south of France where it is possible to buy a bargain property. The village is far enough away from large centres of commerce and industry for prices to have remained low, in comparison with many better known parts of France. It is worth noting, however, that local estate agents say that property prices in the region as a whole have risen steeply, doubling in the past four years! At the moment, property around Toulouse and other large towns like Montauban is the most expensive, but interest in the countryside is increasing and villages such as Lavit are set to become sought after, so property here should prove a sound investment. There is an abundance of rural style property around Lavit, and even those on a tight budget should find something to suit their pockets and fulfil their dreams!
