The attractive market town of Valence d'Agen (also known as Valence) is set on the Canal Entre Deux Mers, part of the canal network that includes the Canal du Midi. It links the Atlantic to the Pacific, crossing southern France from west to east. The town is set against a background of sunflower fields and a peaceful, rolling countryside.

The market is held on Tuesday, with a farmers' market held on Saturday. The motorway system that runs to the Med takes you quickly to the coast, passing towns like the Cathar city of Carcassonne, with its fairytale towers on the way.

How to get there

The Tarn et Garonne is easily accessed by air thanks to the large airport at Toulouse, where several airlines operate flights direct to and from the UK and Ireland. Toulouse also has a TGV station, and you can travel all the way from Paris on that line. Valence also has its own railway station, so you can easily connect to trains arriving in Toulouse. Driving to Valence d'Agen takes you on the A62 motorway, from where the town can be found.

Property prices around Valence are surprisingly reasonable, given the location of the town and its many attributes. It is currently (2012) possible to find attractive properties from under 100,000 Euros, with the choice widening between 100,000 Euros and 200,000 Euros. Higher up the scale, some luxurious properties can be found. The area is rich in traditional style properties, typical of the south-west of France and offering real charm and character.
