For buying and selling property in Mazamet
The town of Mazamet lies in the south of the department of the Tarn in southern France, on the slopes of the Montagne Noir and on the banks of the Arnette River. Being situated almost on the border with the Languedoc region, Mazamet is fortunate in its location. It offers a gateway to the south, to the Pyrénées and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as access to the wild and beautiful Tarn and the major city of Toulouse.
Mazamet is a busy market town with a long history of involvement in the textile industry. This has brought considerable prosperity to Mazamet, which has developed into a lively and interesting town with much to offer to the property seeker.
The Montagne Noir, on whose northern slopes the town lies, is a beautiful thickly wooded place, with forests of pine and chestnut bedecking the land and giving it a dark look from afar which gives it its name. The Montagne Noir is known for its lovely lakes and forests, and many of these provide a cool and peaceful retreat from the fierce summer sunshine.
Mazamet is a town which successfully blends the old with the new, and nowhere is this more evident than in the differing types of architecture in the town. The attractive old stone and rendered houses beyond the tree-lined streets give a traditional feel, whilst there are also some state of the art contemporary buildings which bring the prosperity of the modern town sharply into focus.
Mazamet has a wide range of shops and other facilities, and in the centre of the town you can enjoy a good selection of bars, cafés and restaurants. On the outskirts of the town are the commercial zones, where the large supermarkets are situated, along with other useful large stores.
Mazamet benefits from a great geographical location, which means that there is no shortage of places to go and things to do! Just outside the town there is a beautiful lake, the Lac du Pradelles, and you can simply stand, breathing in the tranquillity, gazing out over the waters of the lake, to the ancient city of Carcassonne and the dramatic peaks of the Pyrénées beyond.
If you need to be more active, you could follow in the footsteps of the town's most famous sons, the brothers Laurent and Nicolas Jalabert, both of whom are successful racing cyclists. In honour of their achievements, Mazamet has a waymarked cycling trail which takes you around the town following distinctive green ands white signs. All the usual sporting activities are also available near or in the town, with swimming pools, golf, horse-riding and tennis nearby. There is even an ice rink in Castres, which is within easy travelling distance of Mazamet.
Reaching Mazamet by air is easy, and offers a choice of airports and airlines. Toulouse is within easy reach, as is Carcassonne. Airlines which fly into Toulouse from the UK are British Airways, bmibaby, easyJet, flybe and bmi. Carcassonne is served by Ryanair, who have budget flights available from London Stansted, East Midlands and Liverpool airports.
