For buying and selling property in Nord-Pas-de-Calais
The Nord-Pas-de-Calais is one of the smallest regions and is located in the far north of France. It shares a border with Belgium, which explains the Flemish influence. Being home to the Opal Coast, the area is famous for its immaculate and clean beaches, the most fashionable being Le Touquet. Along the coastline, you can expect to find tourist resorts in abundance.
The region tends to attract people with its countryside, quaint villages, festivities and joie de vivre! Indeed it may be one of the jolliest regions in France, with parades, carnivals and fairs being held regularly. And being so close to the UK, you can expect the climate to be not too dissimilar to that enjoyed in Southern England.
Nord-Pas-de-Calais can take credit for the explosion in 19th century French manufacturing and still retains a significant industrial feel, today. It is the only major conurbation outside Paris.
Property is not too expensive but since the opening of the Channel Tunnel the region has seen a slight increase in prices. The presence of the Channel Tunnel has done a lot for the region's economy and provides an incredibly frequent, cheap and reliable service. Other communication links are good too. There are frequent ferries to and from the UK and the road network makes driving to Paris and other areas extremely easy. If you'd rather leave your car at home then don't forget the fast and efficient TGV trains. There are no airports within the region which offer direct flights to/from the UK, except for Le Touquet.

The Nord has been an important crossroads in northern Europe for centuries. Mainly overlooked by British holidaymakers, who choose to stay on the autoroutes heading for Belgium, the Nord is for the most part unspoilt and can truly claim to be 'la France profonde'.

Dunkerque is a name that will always conjure up memories of extreme courage, and of the terrible tragedy of war. The town today, however, whilst never wanting to forget the events of 1940, is a forward thinking place of industry and commerce, of shopping sprees and holidays by the sea. Le Touquet Paris Plage gained its name due to its elegance and popularity with the rich Parisians who flocked to enjoy its charms after it was created in the late 19th century.
Lille, the great city of the north and historic capital of Flanders, is now the capital city of the Nord department of northern France. Once a centre of the textile industry, the city has undergone massive rejuvenation in recent times, and today bears no comparison to the dark industrial place it was in times gone by. Thanks to local government funded programmes, it is a place of light and colour, of beauty, history and art.
