For buying and selling property in Frévent
Frévent is a lively market town which is found in the unspoilt countryside of the Canche River Valley, in the Pas de Calais department in the far north of France. The town is a great base for a holiday or weekend home in France for UK residents, as it is just an hour and a half's drive from the port of Calais, and within easy reach of the many attractions of this delightful part of France.
Frévent has a bustling approach to life, and is equipped with shops, supermarkets, sports and leisure facilities (including a most impressive public swimming pool) as well as a number of good bars and restaurants. Having all life's little necessities on the doorstep takes the stress out of daily life, but Frévent is still a very attractive town, with a rural ambience and glorious surroundings. Market day is Tuesday, but be sure to be there early as the market packs up at lunchtime.
The town has several sights of interest, and while in town you should make time to visit the St Hilaire war cemetery if you have any interest in the tragic events of the First World War. Frévent suffered too in the Second World War, with parts of the town destroyed by bombing raids. Further sights include the St Hilaire and the St Vaast churches, the Cercamp Château, Abbey and Park, an old flour mill and a couple of good museums, one having a fascinating collection of agricultural tools and equipment from the area's farming history.
It doesn't matter what it is you want to do on your holiday or in your free time if you are moving to settle permanently in France, you should be able to find it in or near Frévent. There are chic seaside resorts at the easily accessible coast, with Le Touquet being the most high profile, and many less well known, historic towns and buildings too, many relating to the world wars.
There are also gorgeous swathes of green countryside to enjoy and a multitude of sporting activities on offer. The area is known especially for golf, horse-riding, fishing and walking, but you will also find swimming, sailing, motor racing, flying, tennis and just about any activity you can name! Shoppers can find Mecca in the shape of the port towns of Calais and Boulogne, both of which have excellent restaurants and many other attractions as well.
Probably the best way to reach the area is to take your car and head for either the train or the ferry, as both arrive in Calais and leave you with just an hour and a half's drive to reach Frévent. The town lies between the A16 and A26, on the D916 road. Should you prefer to fly, the nearest airport is Le Touquet which is served by Lydd Air, while Paris Beauvais Airport, north of Paris, is also an option, being served by Ryanair.
Frévent has some very affordable property at the time of writing, and offers a good variety of property types too. The Pas de Calais is becoming popular with holidaymakers once more, as people realise that the north of France has just as much to offer as the south, and is so much easier to travel to, so renting your property out once acquired should be no problem.
