For buying and selling property in Val-d'Oise
The Val-d'Oise is the smallest department in the Ile-de-France yet is packed with interesting places to visit. It has long been a favourite with artists who come to find inspiration away from the crowded Parisian streets. There are a number of impressive châteaux in the department, including the Château de Ecouen, which is now a fine museum on the Renaissance.
Pontoise, which was once a popular retreat for monarchs, is a relaxing town located in the centre of the department. Its star attraction is its flamboyant cathedral with its rich mix of architectural styles. The artists Camille Pissaro, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cezanne all made their home here. There are two good art galleries worth checking out.
Montmorency is a highly affluent town on the outskirts of Paris. It is located on top of a hill next to a forest and has a large number of grand parks and public gardens. The renowned social theorist Jean-Jacques Rousseau resided here while he penned his greatest works, such as Du Contrat Social.
Art lovers should definitely head to Auvers-sur-Oise. The village, home to just 6000 people, stretches for 7km along the banks of the River Oise. This pretty area has been immortalised in Impressionist paintings. Visitors will recognise both the church and the wheatfields, both of which feature among Van Gogh's greatest works. The tiny room that he rented in his dying days is open to the public. Inside the nearby château, you'll be able to watch a clever virtual tour about the different artists who came here.
Travelling to and from the Val d'Oise department is very easy. There are two airports in Paris, the nearest being Charles de Gaulle. Both airports have regular flights to and from the UK. If you'd rather take your car then you can catch a ferry from the UK to Le Havre or Dieppe. Alternatively, you may want to consider taking the Eurostar from London to Paris.
Property prices in the department are consistently high due to the proximity of the capital.
