For buying and selling property in Loulay
Loulay calls itself a market town rather than a village, in spite of its diminutive size. It deserves this label, however, as it is better equipped with small shops and services than many towns twice its size. You can get pretty much everything you need for day to day life, and a weekly market adds to the appeal. Loulay's surroundings are just as lovely as the town itself. A green, rolling countryside with vineyards and sunflowers is hard to resist, while the Atlantic resorts and sandy beaches are just a short car ride away.
You might not expect it of a town with less than 800 inhabitants, but Loulay offers a good array of amenities. There's a bank, a co-op, two bakeries, a butcher, a hairdresser, a pharmacy, a tabac/newsagents and a great bar/restaurant. The latter has live music nights on alternate Fridays throughout the summer, so that's your entertainment sorted! The "Centre des Loisirs" offers holiday activities for kids, so they can safely let off steam and let you relax in peace. And, for fans of the traditional French shopping experience, Friday is market day in town.
There can hardly be any better region in which to find activities and places to visit. The climate is wonderful too, so days out are usually enjoyed in bright sunshine. You can drive in any direction from Loulay and find something to do. Places worth considering include the coast, of course, with its lively resorts, sandy beaches and fun for all the family. Inland is the fascinating and unique Green Venice, where the canals meander through a lush green landscape. It's best seen from a traditional flat bottomed boat. Towns like the nearby St Jean d'Angely and Aulnay have more amenities and a greater selection of restaurants and things to do. Those who like to be active on holiday can find many sports within reach of Loulay. These include swimming, sailing, walking, golf, horse-riding and tennis.
The department is easy to get to from the UK. You can travel by air or rail to La Rochelle, Poitiers or even Bordeaux or Limoges. If you're driving, the A10 motorway (toll road) runs close by, while the town itself is located on the D150.
Often thought of as an expensive part of Poitou-Charentes, the Charente-Maritime is now a place with bargains to be found, thanks to the recession. The coast still commands higher prices than many areas, but if you look inland at towns like Loulay you'll get plenty of property for your Pounds.
