For buying and selling property in Couture
Couture, in the Charente department of Poitou-Charentes, is a tiny, sleepy village. In fact, it has just 161 villagers, making only just more than a hamlet. However, thanks to its location, this oasis of rural peace is easily accessed from the UK by plane, train or car, and makes a great getaway to the peace of the French countryside.
Couture is located on an ancient roadway, and has some lovely old, original buildings to see. The most important sight is the Church of Saint Hilaire, which is a registered historical monument. Its lovely Bell Tower is worthy of a visit. The Mairie is another very attractive building.
Living in a peaceful village in the country is delightful, but there are times when you have to get out the car and go shopping. You will also want access to services such as doctors, dentists, schools, vets, banks and all the necessities of modern life. So it's good to know that the nearby towns of Aunac and Ruffec have plenty of amenities. Ruffec and Mansle, also nearby, have weekly markets held in the streets in traditional French style. In Ruffec, and indeed, dotted around the countryside you will find plenty of lovely restaurants where you can try the local fare.
Charming as Couture is, you will want to explore the surrounding area, and maybe take part in some activities. Walking is always a delight, with the beautiful Charente sunflowers, vineyards and lakes and rivers as a backdrop. By the same token, cycling and horse-riding in these unspoilt surroundings are great pastimes. You'll find a selection of golf courses within a short drive, and fishing can be accessed all over the locality. Getting a little further away from home you can visit the principle town of Angoulême, where there is a lot of heritage to discover. Poitiers and Limoges are both accessible for day trips.
You can access the area by air if you take a flight to Poitiers or Limoges. Poitiers is served by Ryanair, and Limoges by Ryanair and Flybe. Both towns also have TGV services, and you can link to a local train from Poitiers to Ruffec. If you are travelling by car, look for the D26 or D102.
With property around Couture starting at just 34,560 Euros, you could say the prices are very reasonable! If you are looking for something larger, there are currently (May 2012) some beautiful properties on offer for prices around 200,000-300,000 Euros.
