Massignac - a tranquil village in a stunning setting

Massignac is a tranquil little village set against the beautiful lakes, woodlands and pastures of the Charente Limousin. It's the perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy outdoor pursuits in unpolluted air. This part of western France is authentic and unspoiled. And, village life continues at its own pace, unhurried and much as it has done for centuries.

Life in Massignac

With just over 400 residents, Massiganc is undeniably just a tiny little village. However, it's got useful local amenities, including a baker's, a butcher's, a pharmacy and a general grocery shop. There's a village primary school too, while older kids can take a free school bus to the secondary school in a nearby town. Supermarkets are easily found in larger towns just a short drive away. Massignac has its own Tourist Office, so if you want to know what's going on in the area, or need some ideas for local places of interest to visit, this is the place to go for all the information you need.

Heritage to enjoy

The village has a lovely old church, built in the Gothic Revival style. But probably the most intriguing piece of local heritage takes the form of the Neolithic Dolmen Thauzat, which is classified as a historical monument and is found just outside Massignac. Meanwhile many of the village houses are original and charming. The style is typically Charantaise, with traditionally rendered walls, painted shutters and red, pantiled rooftops.

Explore delightful Poitiers and Limousin's Lakeland

The neighbouring Limousin region is also close by and offers a quite different set of pleasures to experience. This is France's very own Lakeland where you can go fishing, boating, swimming or simply relax and enjoy the beauty of the views.
