For buying and selling property in Nanteuil en Vallée
Nanteuil en Vallée is one of the "stand out towns" of the Charente department, being rich in architectural and religious heritage, atmospheric and attractive and having a beautiful setting amid the soft, rolling countryside of the region. The town is also well equipped with shops, bars and restaurants and is easily accessed from the UK, making it a perfect location for a holiday home or a permanent life in France.
One of the attractions of Nanteuil en Vallée is its religious and architectural heritage, which draws visitors throughout the year and causes the town to be mentioned in all the good guide books. Of the sights, the most important is the 12th century Benedictine abbey, with a considerable amount of the original buildings still remaining in good condition. After the abbey, historic features of Nanteuil en Vallée include the pretty bridge over the river, an old lavoir (public wash house), a church and a chapel and the Fountain of John the Baptist. Many of the original streets and half-timbered houses remain, creating a picture postcard perfect ambience.
Of course, man cannot live on heritage alone, lovely though it may be, so it is also good to know that Nanteuil has a very handy range of shops and services. There is a bakery, a butcher's shop, a general grocer's, a post office and a pharmacy. There are also a couple of good bar/restaurants and a delightful park.
The countryside of the immediate vicinity is ideal for walking, cycling or horse-riding, being quiet and very pretty. Nearby you can enjoy swimming, fishing, canoeing and tennis. The area offers many natural lakes and rivers where you can swim, sunbathe or perhaps sail.
Places to visit include the nearby larger town of Ruffec, with a much greater choice of shops, restaurants and other amenities, or a little further afield, the main city of Angoulême. Not too far away (near enough for day trips) is the Atlantic coast and the vibrant port town of La Rochelle, with the city of Cognac, famed for its brandy, being another accessible attraction.
The nearest airports which will get you to the area directly from the UK are Poitiers, Limoges and La Rochelle. Poitiers is served by Ryanair, Limoges by Flybe and Ryanair, and La Rochelle by Flybe, Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2. TGV trains run into Angoulême. If driving, follow the N10 (Route Nationale) heading towards Ruffec, then take the D740 to Nanteuil en Vallée.
One of the many attractions of the Charente is its property prices. Although the department has seen an increase of prices due to popularity, property here is still a great bargain. Currently on the market near Nanteuil en Vallée is a fabulous, fully renovated watermill for just over 300,000 Euros, and it is even possible to find a potentially gorgeous country home within the Charente to renovate for just over 30,000 Euros. Obviously, these properties would be expected to sell fast, but there is a good range of property to find in the area around the town and most people will find something to suit their requirements and pockets here.
