Paizay Naudouin Embourie is a small and peaceful village of the Charente department in Poitou-Charentes. Lying in the north of the department, it's set in picturesque countryside yet within reach of all the popular attractions of the region. The Atlantic coast is just an hour and a half's drive.
Paizay Naudouin Embourie is an historic village... in fact, the site where the village now stands was once occupied by a Gallo Roman villa. You can still see the archaeological site today. Then there's the 12th century village church, which is a listed historic monument. And, just to the north of the village you can find the beautiful Château Saveille.
Although many small, rural villages in western France offer no shops and few local services, this isn't the case in Paizay Naudouin Embourie. You won't find supermarkets, of course (you can find them in nearby Chef Boutonne or Villefagnan), but you will find an excellent boulangerie, a post office and a bar/restaurant. There's also a primary school in the village with a secondary school in Chef Boutonne, just ten minutes away.
It might be rural, but the village is close enough to a number of activities to keep most people happy. There's golf at Angoulême and Cognac, both about a 40 minute drive away from Paizay Naudouin Embourie. Or, how about spending time at the seaside? It takes around an hour and a half to drive to the bustling port town of La Rochelle, making days at the coast a real possibility. The gorgeous Foret de Tesse is on the doorstep too, ideal for walking and horse-riding.
The area near to the village is rich in history and heritage and there are some great places to visit. Why not take time to discover the grand chateaux at Verteuil and Rochefoucauld? Or enjoy a day in the region's main cities of Poitiers or Angoulême? On a smaller scale, but none the less enjoyable are the many market towns and pretty villages that dot the countryside.
You can fly from the UK to La Rochelle, Poitiers or Limoges. All those towns also offer TGV stations, as does Angoulême. Finally, drivers can find Paizay Naudouin Embourie on the D61/181, not far from the N10 (non toll) motorway.
It's a good place to find a bargain in 2012! There are currently renovation properties on the market that are priced at under 50,000 Euros, and very reasonably priced fully renovated properties too.
