For buying and selling property in Saint Angeau
Saint Angeau is a very pleasant rural village that is found in the Charente department of southern Poitou-Charentes. Sitting on the left bank of the Bonnieure River, Saint Angeau is dependant on agriculture for its economy, but offers good village amenities.
Just on the edge of the village is a cave which is said to carry traces of habitation by pre-historic man. Within the bounds of the village itself there is a church dating to the 12th century. St Michaela's Church is a listed historic monument with a notable façade, added in the 16th century. There is also a Romanesque bell tower.
For a village of its size, Saint Angeau has good amenities. There is a bakery, a small supermarket, a pharmacy, a petrol station and an English speaking doctor. There is a school for pre school and primary school children between the village and the neighbouring village of Saint Amant de Bonnieure.
The peaceful countryside around the village is perfect for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders to enjoy in safe, almost traffic free surroundings. The village of Mansle, just ten minutes distant, has a horse racing track. Five golf courses can be accessed within the department, and the rivers and lakes offer boating, fishing and swimming.
The nearest town of Mansle offers a twice weekly market and a good range of shops, restaurants and services. Don't miss the brandy town of Cognac, where you can visit the great brandy houses of Remy Martin, Hennessy and Martell. The principal city of Angoulême is well worth a look, as it has an historic quarter and a wonderful cathedral. There's also excellent shopping and dining there.
You can fly direct from the UK to Poitiers, or to Limoges if you prefer. Ryanair currently flies to both airports, with Flybe also flying to Limoges. Both those towns also have TGV stations and Poitiers links by rail to the nearby market town of Ruffec, getting you even closer to your destination by train. Drivers can find Saint Angeau near the N10 non toll motorway on the D15.
The department is popular with property seekers, but prices in 2012 are very affordable. Saint Angeau has some good bargains on offer at the time of writing with prices starting from just 149,500 Euros.
