Saint Claud - a thriving but small town in a great location

Saint Claud lies amid a pretty countryside, with fields that turn to pure gold in early summer, when the sunflowers raise their heads to greet the sun. It is a small but lively town, and well appointed, with plenty of shops and services. And Saint Claud is well situated to reach the many attractions of the area.

Saint Claud has a surprising number of shops and amenities for such a small town. You'll find two boulangeries, three hairdressers, a bank, a post office, several bars and a restaurant. There's even a small supermarket, with several much larger ones easily found within a short drive of the town. Saint Claud also has its own public swimming pool, which is great for those hot sunny days when the kids are more full of energy than you are!

Activities on offer and places to visit in the area

The Charente and the wider region are literally packed with things to do and places to go. The main town of Angoulême is only 40 kilometres away, and has a wide range of shops, restaurants, cultural venues and street markets held every day of the week! Then you can take time out to pop across into the Limousin and pay your respects at the tragic memorial village of Oradour sur Glanes, the scene of a terrible Nazi atrocity. Or visit the Roman baths at Chassenon. Or perhaps you would prefer a relaxing day swimming and sunbathing at the lovely lake of Roumaziers Loubert? Then of course, you can enjoy walking in the countryside, horse-riding, cycling or a round of golf. Even the coast of the Charente-Maritime is accessible, albeit with a bit of a drive!

How to get to Saint Claud

You can fly direct from the UK to Limoges with Ryanair and Flybe. Poitiers is also an option. The TGV runs to both those cities, but it also runs to Angoulême which is nearer still. If you are travelling by car, look for the town on the D739 or D951, near the N141 motorway (non toll).
