For buying and selling property in Tusson
The village of Tusson grew up around its abbey in mediaeval times, and has preserved much of its lovely heritage today, making it a favourite destination in the region in spite of its small size and rural location. The abbey's beautiful gardens still exist and can be visited, and there are several other historic sites and buildings of note. All around are the Charente's pretty landscapes of sunflowers and woodlands, with many of the region's best attractions also within easy reach.
Important sights include the monastic gardens of the old abbey, listed as one of the most "remarkable" gardens of France. In addition, there are many lovely Renaissance houses in the town centre, a 15th century church and a good heritage museum dedicated to the village and its environs.
Moving from the history and heritage to the present day, Tusson has plenty of more contemporary attractions too, in the form of a range of small shops (including the essential boulangerie) and an excellent restaurant. This summer, 2011, has also seen the instigation of an Anglo/French market held every second Saturday of each month, ending in October.
With all the attractions provided by the city of Poitiers (old quarter, shops, restaurants, museums, cultural events, Futuroscope theme park etc), and famous towns such as Cognac (famed for its brandy and vineyards) and Aubeterre sur Dronne (one of France's listed most beautiful villages), you will never be short of places to visit for interesting days out. The Atlantic coast is easily accessed for day trips, and the buzzing port of La Rochelle and the glorious Ile de Ré await you there.
Closer to home, the countryside around Tusson offers lovely walking trails, also great for horse riders and cyclists, lakes for swimming, fishing and sailing, beautiful woodland and many historic little villages. The area also has golf courses, quad biking tracks and many more activities to be found.
You can fly with Ryanair to Poitiers or Limoges for a low cost and easy way to reach the area. Limoges is also served by Flybe. Poitiers has a TGV station too, which links to local services. If you are driving, the village is found from the D61 and D736 roads, not far from the N10.
Tusson isn't large and as it such a pretty and historic village, property can sell quickly if it comes on to the market. However, prices are lower than you might expect, with the market currently offering renovation properties for as little as 33,000 Euros. Even a fully renovated village centre house with a garden can be bought for just 82,000 Euros, making Tusson a really appealing prospect for property seekers!
