For buying and selling property in Chiché
Chiché, a small village set in the Deux-Sèvres, is a traditional farming community. It's pretty and peaceful, yet has an active community life and offers good basic shops and services. The village is close to the mediaeval town of Parthenay, and easy to reach by road as it is set close to the N149 motorway.
A rural village like Chiché is generally pretty sleepy and set in its ways in this part of France. However, don't be fooled into thinking that nothing ever happens here. Chiché is a thriving community, with many small enterprises and a good selection of amenities. In the village you can find a post office, a small supermarket, a general store, a bank, a pharmacy, a couple of hairdressers and two boulangeries. The village also has public tennis courts and two restaurants. Chiché has its own Theatre group too, who put on regular performances. The village also hosts fetes and other cultural events during the year. For those moving to the village with children, Chiché has two good schools. There is also a nursing home for the elderly.
Once crossed by an important Roman road, Chiché has a long and interesting history. It suffered damage during the course of several wars, and was occupied by German forces for no less than four years during World War Two. A Monument to the Dead of the Vendée War can be seen in the village.
Peaceful and rural it may be, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty to do in and around Chiché. The river, on which Chiché lies, has some delightful riverside walks and picnic sites along its banks. Nearby there are horse-riding stables, cycle tracks and randonnées for walkers of all fitness levels. And as mentioned previously, there are tennis courts in the village itself. The area is also home to several good leisure lakes where you can sail, swim and fish. Golfers too can enjoy their sport from a base in Chiché, and take note, a new golf course has just been created in the area.
Chicheé is close to the beautiful and unique environment of Green Venice, or the Marais Poitevin. This is a network of canals running through marshy farmland. The landscapes, waterways, flora and fauna are fascinating, and best discovered by boat. The Atlantic coast is just an hour away, and seaside days out are always on the agenda in the summertime.
Trips to mediaeval market towns like Parthenay are a simple pleasure not to be underestimated. And if you like your entertainment to be a little on the spectacular side, try a trip to Puy de Fou. The lights and sound shows here are legendary and provide a never to be forgotten experience for all the family.
The airports of Poitiers, Nantes and La Rochelle are all accessible. St Malo, served by Brittany Ferries, is the closest ferry port at three hours away, but even Calais is just a six-hour drive from Chiché. Road travel is also easy, as the village is found just off the N149 motorway.
Chiché offers some incredible property bargains at the time of writing. Even if your budget only runs to under a 100,000 Euros, there are some great properties up for grabs.
