For buying and selling property in Massais
The little village of Massais, which is located in the Deux-Sèvres department of the Poitou-Charentes region of western France, is a peaceful and pretty place, set amid the beautiful rural landscapes of this part of France. Massais is, in some ways, more connected to the past than most villages, even here in the heart of la France Profond, boasting the last remaining traditional creamery. Run as a co-operative, this little dairy takes in milk from local farmers, churns it into butter and other products in the old fashioned ways.
Small and rural though it is, Massais does have a very handy and well stocked village shop, so you can purchase most of life's day to day essentials without having to jump into your car and leave this rural idyll. Better still, the village has an exceptionally highly recommended restaurant, where the regional specialities can be enjoyed in very convivial surroundings.
Kids will love Massais, because close to the village is a great water park, with slides and rides, always a popular day out for a family! Of course the area around Massais offers lots of other sporting and leisure activities. There are golf courses, riding stables, cycle hire shops and plenty of tennis and petanque courts. Lakes and rivers abound, and these are great for open air swimming and other water sports in the summer season. Nearby Thouars has a good open air swimming pool for those who prefer the water chlorinated... but you will need to make sure all the men in the party have Speedo type trunks as most French pools won't let you swim in shorts.
There are a good number of interesting places to visit close to Massais, and the beautiful and historic town of Fontenay le Compte is definitely worth a look. The gorgeous coast of the Vendée is perfectly accessible from a base in Massais, as are the islands that lie just off the mainland. Travelling in the other direction you could visit Poitiers, and spend some time at the great theme park of Futuroscope.
There are two airports within easy reach of Massais: Tours and Poitiers. Both have direct flights from the UK with Ryanair, the cut price airline. The nearby large town of Thouars has a train station with easy links to the TGV station at Poitiers, while driving from the nearest ferry ports takes around four to five hours. Massais lies on the D579. Follow signs for Thouars, which is the nearest large town.
Massais is the perfect place for lovers of peace and tradition. The setting, in the rural Vienne, is perfect, as it is peaceful and beautiful yet within easy reach of transport links and the amenities of larger towns. Property here is inexpensive when compared to that found nearer the coast in the Vendée, and renovation projects are still relatively plentiful.
