For buying and selling property in Charroux
Charroux makes a perfect destination for anyone wanting to live in the Poitou-Charentes region in western France. This little market town has everything. It is historic, with a fascinating heritage, and it is also a vibrant living town. Traditions like the weekly market are still in evidence, but modern amenities make living in Charroux easy. The surrounding countryside is perfectly picturesque, and all the main attractions of this popular region are within reach. Charroux could be the ideal location for your new property in France!
Charroux was once an important seat of religious power and you can still see the remains of a massive abbey. The unusual octagonal lantern Tower of Charlemagne is the outstanding feature of the town, and there are also the old cloisters still standing. In town, the market halls, a covered structure typical of French market towns, are lovely and worth visiting. Several original old houses can also be seen in the town centre, near the market square.
Charroux's regular market day is Thursday morning. But, on the first Saturday of each month there is another market held in the town too. Charroux also has a good selection of shops and restaurants. Other amenities in the town include a post office, a library and a primary school.
Charroux and its environs offer a lovely setting for walking, cycling and horse-riding. The rivers and lakes of the area are popular with fishermen, swimmers and canoeists too. If you enjoy a round of golf you can visit any one of the Vienne's four courses.
There is so much to do in the region that you will never exhaust all the possibilities! Visits to Poitiers and its theme park of Futuroscope are always recommended, especially if you have children. Animal lovers will adore the Monkey Park (La Vallée des Singes), where many different species of monkeys can be seen living in a delightfully natural environment. The area abounds in pretty market towns, and one to include on the "must visit" list is Civray. Montmorillon, on the River Gartempe, is another attractive old town.
Getting there means flying to Poitiers or Limoges if you enjoy the ease of air travel. Poitiers is served by Ryanair, and Limoges by Ryanair and Flybe. Or you can take the TGV to either of those cities if you prefer rail travel. If driving, you'll find Charroux on the D4/D148C. It's quite close to the N10, for ease of travelling around.
There are currently some almost unbelievably cheap properties on the market in Charroux. Property in the region is generally very reasonably priced, but 2012 seems to offer some incredible bargains!
