For buying and selling property in Chaunay
Chaunay is a calm, unassuming little village that is set in the picturesque countryside of the rural department of the Vienne in western France. The village may not have many important historical monuments, but it is extremely attractive with its mellow buildings, a lovely 12th century church and its traditional weekly market. Chaunay's other area of appeal is its excellent location, within easy reach of all the region's main attractions and easily accessed from the UK.
Chaunay is a pretty, tranquil village, rural in outlook yet it manages to supply much of what you are likely to need on a day to day basis. There's a handy supermarket, a couple of boulangeries selling delicious bread and pastries, a post office, a hairdresser's to keep you looking your best, a bar tabac and even a couple of restaurants so you can treat yourself to an evening out without having to take the car.
One of the high spots of life in Chaunay comes every Monday morning, when a little traditional street market sets up, bringing with it a chance to browse the colourful stalls and find fresh local produce in addition to some intriguing odds and ends.
Chaunay is extraordinarily well placed when it comes to accessing the region's many attractions. Within reach is the fabulous Atlantic coast, with the beautiful Ile de Re, the buzzing port town of La Rochelle, gorgeous beaches and lots of sea sports. Inland, theme parks predominate in this region, and you can see monkeys of many different types enjoying freedom in natural surroundings at The Valley of the Monkeys.
Visit Poitiers and its lovely old town and the Futuroscope theme park, marvel at the falcons and eagles in the bird sanctuary "The Giants of the Sky" at Chauvigny or just enjoy a drive or walk in the country, popping in and out of the picturesque villages and taking in typically Charantaise architecture and atmosphere. Regarding sports activities there are opportunities nearby for swimming, canoeing and kayaking, golf, horse-riding and cycling amongst others.
The area is really easy to get to from the UK, with the airport of Poitiers, served by budget airline Ryanair being the closest. La Rochelle and Limoges are also possible destinations when travelling by air. La Rochelle is served by Ryanair, easyJet, Flybe and Jet2, while Limoges is served by Ryanair and Flybe. Caen and St Malo are the nearest of the ferry ports, with Calais and the other northern ports also just a few hours drive away. If driving, and having a car at your disposal is advisable, you will find Chaunay easily from the N10.
Property around Chaunay is very reasonably priced, and it's a popular area for ex-pats, so you should find a well established British community there. Property types include attractive old village houses, country properties and farm-style properties with attached gites.
